What do you guys think of this offer? I local guy offered me $1.80 for each 40% that I have? Is this a good offer or should I shop around? I know he is for real, he just paid me 0.06 for each Wheat penny I had laying around I had 6800 Wheaties from the 40-50's and he paid me $408 cash of course. |

Silver content value is $2.24 each at current spot price of $15.16 per troy ounce. So basically he's paying 80% of spot, sounds a bit low to me, but I've never sold or even tried to sell any 40%. I often see 40% selling for spot price on ebay, of course there you have seller/paypal fees which I think run about 13% but still 87% of spot is better than 80% like he's offering. Edited by RCook

$1.80 IS A GOOD PRICE
40% silver is much more costly to smelt than 90%
that is why they offer less, in my area the going price is 1.50 each, if I could get $1.80 I would sell what I have and trade for gold, that is what I usually do with my 40%

2 boxes of dimes weighs less than a box of halves. Carrying 4 boxes of dimes is a treat compared to 2 boxes of halves :-)

The dimes in one box weigh about 5.675 kg (2500 coins * 2.268 g per coin). That's 11.34 kg for 2 boxes. A box of halves also weights about 11.34 kg (1000 coins * 11.34 g per coin).

I must stand completely corrected. I guess it was in my head the whole time. Now, I have thrown boxes on my scale before. I was sure that the dimes always seems to come up a little shorter. In my mind, it was a pound. But you are right as far as coin weight is concerned. Thank you for pointing that out.
Now I don't know how I will feel getting my coins tomorrow. Will the halves feel lighter? The dimes heavier? I dunno lol good times...

Of course the weight varies coin-to-coin, and the cardboard boxes will alter it, as will silver coins or short/long rolls. That's probably not enough to make one a pound lighter than the other, but it makes sense that they would be a bit different if you weighed them.

sorry for the tangent everyone. Good luck this week to everyone, I hope there is something good in your boxes!! I am hoping to do 12 boxes this week, with 4 coming in tomorrow. hopefully it will be flowing...

A bag $1000.00 of dimes weighs 50.045 lbs. 2000 halves $1000.00 weighs 50.008 lbs. There is this young lady at one bank I buy from she lifts 4 boxes of halves and puts them on the counter with no problem. She is not very big either. I would not want to be her boyfriend and piss her off.  |

My regular bank had no half rolls, again, but the 3 tellers had enough to make one roll. All skunks.

Yakima, I learned the hard way today many WA banks do not have coin counters and will accept only small amounts of rolled coins, so be aware before you begin obtaining large quantities of coins.

Is that true for most banks in the state? Mine doesn't have one, but I thought others might. I've had no trouble returning a few hundred dollars worth of coins (rerolled) so far.

Num, thankfully not true for all banks in the state. BofA made my day!
By the way, OR was setup well for CRHers...best state I've CRHed in from an order/deposit standpoint...Smooth as silk.
