I thought I had a nice NIFC find this morning... until I saw what the rolling machine did to it, and what someone did to the back of it... these are a very tough-to-find date and MM out here in Southern California.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

2 boxes from last Teusday.
Box 1 was a skunk.
Box 2 had 2 enders. I figured I would have a good box for once. Not the case. After going through about 3/4 of the box there still was no more silver.
Ended up with 3 40%ers. If I would have only found those 2 enders then I think it would have topped the 3 boxes where I found 1 ender which was the only silver in the box.
2 boxes from this Tuesday.
2 40%ers and an Ellis Island.

My order of 4 boxes came in from Brinks again today. I went through 3 of them and they were skunks. I was getting irritated, so I went to my other bank and bought 4 boxes of dimes and found some silver. I've gone through $15,000 in halves, and have only managed to find 2 40%. I thought maybe I was just having bad luck streak, as I've noticed it happens to many other successful hunters on this board time and again. I've been patiently waiting for an exciting box that will fill my enthusiasm and i'll have a taste of the success that is likely the driving factor for everyone else. But I can honestly say that I'm loosing the excitement of ordering boxes and handling the coins with no success. I'm starting to wonder why I'm having such horrible luck, if it's Brinks, if there's a lot of other silver hunters in the area, or if I'm just looking through the same halves over and over again (as I don't mark them).
Regardless of all of the setbacks, I've ordered another 4 boxes. I refuse to give up until I find a walking liberty, or at least one 90%.
I've opened up two more accounts at different banks so I can increase the size of the project and ultimately increase my chances of success. I'm quite stubborn, and likely won't give up easy. But I can't imagine going through 100k and continuing without getting a single 90%.
Happy holiday's and happy hunting.
Best of luck!

Sauce, best of luck! There are many variables wrt why one doesn't find a silver coin and another person finds several in each box.
I think the bottom line is the higher the volume, the greater the chance of finding a silver coin(s). Location also plays a role, as does the number of CRHers in your area.
It's a good sign you found 2, 40% halves in 30 boxes because this means Brinks does not have coin counting machines that reject silver.
If you aren't enjoying looking through boxes of halves, then make a more permanent switch to dimes to satisfy your desire for silver.
HH and good luck!

Berto, Thanks for your input, it's appreciated! I haven't heard of coin counting machines that reject silver, that's interesting information. It makes me a bit more optimistic finding the 2 40%. The most realistic variable that I can change is the volume of halves that I search, so i'll increase the volume and keep the hunt going. I'm too stubborn to give up. Getting skunked for so long makes me want to hunt harder. I'll save a few boxes of dimes for the frustrating moments Take Care, Sauce

Back when I did high volume I averaged 1 silver per box (40% or 90%) When I had to cut my volume in half I still average 1 silver per box. The difference is this year my worst skunk streak was 6 boxes. In the old days it was 28 boxes, 1 silver, followed by 26 boxes skunked. Sure if the stats are correct I could have found twice as much silver this year if I maintained the volume but the hassle of goign to all corners of town to several banks and the emotional stress of dealing with the long skunk streaks in hindsight it wasn't worth it the last 5 years. Sure the Monster box (especially since silver was at $30 at the time) was great and all of the rare error finds were nice I wonder how much money I lost over the years to short roll sand coin counting machines. But I am not in it for the money, I am in it for the experience, the memories, the thrill of the hunt and the street cred.

Received 6 40% halves today as a Christmas present from a neighbor that could not likely afford to give away her silver coins. She gave me 12 halves total with 6 being 40%ers. when the wife told her she should keep them as they were silver she said she had more at home, that she had since the 80's. The 2 of them might go to "Uncle Ken's" coin shop soon and get them appraised. I could offer her melt also, without a discount, because I'm a nice guy. Webekin

First off Congrats to everyone on their finds lately.. I haven't posted in a little over a couple weeks because my finds were a mere 2 40% each week for the last 2 weeks but this last fridays pick up of 4 boxes had a change of pace which was nice.. Out of 4 boxes I only got skunked one of of them with the other 3 providing a relatively decent find overall.. Finally nice to see that christmas silver coming through and hoping the boxes carry on to next week. 22x 40% 1x 90% (1943) walker.. love finding those :-) Merry Christmas or happy Holidays to you all and Hope everyone has a wonderful vacation if you were lucky enough to have taken some time off... Good luck to all of you in your hunts and hope you all find some nice shiny christmas silver as well..

Awesome finds Chet and Trapper, I finely got around to my last 4 boxes from last week, all skunks. Once again a bunch of coins I have marked a couple from 7/16 and a few from 11/16. They are really quick turning my dumps seeing a lot of the same coins. Hope everyone had a outstanding Christmas. The end of the year is near and I still need 12 ounces of silver to reach 200 ounces.
