My halves hunts have been minimal but very lucky. Once I decided to start asking for halves I started asking wherever I went (grocery store, gas station, Walmart, etc.). The 1st week I had found a couple dollars worth of common coins. I stopped at a bank who had given me pennies before to get 2 boxes one Friday. I remembered to ask for halves and was able to buy $55.50 face value. 65 of the 111 coins were 40%'s. I opened an account there the next day. I had trouble with the online access to my account so I went back in on Monday. While I was there I mentioned to a teller that I had bought a bunch of halves and was happy I had found them. She told me she had $13.00 in halves and the teller next to her had $25.00 more. I bought those and ended up with 9 more 40% & 3 90% Kennedy's. On the following Friday I decided to go to a coin store a town over. I stopped at every bank along the way to the store and took a different way home and stopped at all those bank too. I ended up going to 9 or 10 banks getting nothing more than a roll total. At the last bank they had 15 rolls. When they started putting them together I saw things like "1968 Kennedy" written on a few of them. When I went through them there was 7 rolls that had a 40% year & Kennedy written on it. Each roll was solid of that 40% coin. An eighth roll had written on it: 9-90%,10-40%/clad, 2 clad. This roll lied as there was only 8-90% in it with 10-40%. I have since gone out twice to a handful of close banks (3-5 banks over 1/2 hour-40 minutes each time) with nothing but a roll+ of misc. clad coins to go through. I realize how new & how unbelievably lucky I have been so far. Has only got me optimistic about the future. Though I worry about having the finds of a lifetime getting 10 ozt & then 2 more ozt from my newest bank then doubling it with 25 ozt the following Friday. I'm thinking it will be tough for me to beat my 1st few times in the future.

Nice results, ImTBM. Quote: Pickup 2 boxes this week, short story, 1 box skunked, box 2 had 1 1967 and a 2008 S proof. Living the dream, Webekin Glad to hear you were not completely skunked.

IM TBM I think you are selling yourself short, I would take $2000 to one of those banks and have them order four boxes and see what happens, If you want to hit 25 ounce score or more boxes are your best shot. This fed in your area could be ripe for the pickings. Its still hit and miss, I truly believe Boxes are your best chance to scoring the large amounts of silver. Boxes will get you numbers like this! Never Hit a Teller for this much silver. It probably happens, not like boxes though. https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...inds_opt.jpghttps://www.coincommunity.com/forum...ndsc_opt.jpg

Those are some pretty pics Arby...I've seen so many videos of people getting skunked on boxes (or getting 1 or 2 40%'s total). I figured there was better shot finding someone's dumped collection at the bank or store before the coins get back into real circulation. I might try it at some point though. I have been bitten by the bug for sure. I still have lots of 1st to come...cant wait until I find a Franklin half or some actual Silver Dollars. I make another find I will have someone talk me through getting some pics up here.

Silver aside, I still have not found a NIFC or a 1987 half yet. Still need to find a 1970 Kennedy as well. This is one of the more exciting times as a collector. When almost everything is new. My cars in the shop with a busted alternator but I should have it back tomorrow. I am going to hunt something tomorrow for sure. Will look for halves, etc but I think I will get a couple hundred $1's to make sure I have something to go through. Last time I asked for old or weird looking coins + notes I got a 1950-$10.00 note, a $2. star note, and some other cool older paper dollars. Hopefully I can find some more. I will keep you all posted of my success (or cry about my strikeout...lol).

Got my 1st silver Dollars yesterday...was asking about halves at bank and making small talk with the couple tellers and the girl in drive through. I had bought the 2 1976 clad halves and was about to go and girl at drive through says she has a couple out back. She walks out of the backroom saying she had $9.00 worth and some were old. The 1st year she said was 1972 and my heart sank. Then came 1976...1878...1884, and I hand her $10.00. She hands me 7 clad Ike's and my 1st 2 Morgan silver dollars (and my $1 change). I'm playing in a weekly poker tournament in CT tonight like always (I'm in MA). I think I'm leaving 3 hours early or so to drive through some towns and see if I can find more.

Oh yeah...left early for tournament, but not early enough. It seems the banks that are not closed at 4 are closed at 5...I stopped at one bank, They had 2 rolls of halves, but she though I was a collector that had been there before. Told me the halves were the rolls with my mark on them. Needless to say I left them.
