Chuckster 125, please...don't give up hope!

OK, ladies and gentlemen, been giving the ol' dump bank theory a bit of a goin' over. Why not dump at the bank you're ordering the boxes from? Aren't the chances of getting that same coin back at that bank the same as at any other area bank? One of my banks told me, bring in my dumps, and use them to pay for the boxes. They have their own counting machine, and they don't charge depositors to redeem their coin there. So, I ask you learned folk, what's stopping me?

I wouldnt dump at the same bank your getting halfs from simply because the tellers will get annoyed at you for dumping the halfs they just gave you the day before. Most banks will stop ordering coin for you if you just keep bringing it back and dumping it, they lose money from the ordering fees and prosessing fees charged by the cash handling services. But if the bank told you to bring in your dumps, then I guess there might be no harm in that. As for getting the same halves back, it really doesn't matter what bank you dump them in what matters is what cash handling service gets your halves. If you order and dump your halves at banks that use the same cash handling service, then it is possible to get your dumps back (though unlikely in any regard).

One thing I learned, Chuckster 125, anything is possible! Keep checking that machine, periodically. It may be that customer isn't through "cashing off" yet!

Hey XoG, gotcha loud and clear...appreciate it! I think I'll just see how this arrangement plays out, so long as the teller crew, there, now, is very courteous and cooperative (me, too, BTW, at my banks...can't do enough for those swell folks, I mean it!).

Eddiespin - I have a standing order with the bank that I have all my accounts with, get 3 boxes a week. I do "somewhat" return them back to the same lender, not the same bank. Get them from the main branch and return them to 3 branches located throughout the city. I know that they bag them and sell them back to the Fed, have no idea how long it will take for them to be rerolled and back to the boxes that I get to search.

On a different note, not a find of a half dollar but...
- I help collect and count offering for the church that I attend. (You know where this is going) Counting the $5 bills and came across a unique one. Happens to be a Silver Certificate blue seal 1934 Series. Thank the good Lord for that one...

Yeah, I really don't think I'd fear dumping at a branch bank. Basically, you dump anywhere in the district where that district vault is and that coin could end up in virtually any of those district banks, the way I figure it. Of course, I am just guessing.

$60 loose from the bank and the grocery store. Nothing good. Something tells me I'm not going to find anything until I break down and buy a few boxes :)

Picked up $90 in CWR and found (1) 40%. Returned them to another branch and asked for more CWR and was told they didn't have any. The teller asked what I was looking for and I broke my rule and told him I was looking for silver. He pulled out a 68 and a 67 and said I think these are silver - they sound different. I asked if he would sell them, and he said "Sure they are only worth 50 cents to me." (Why would he hold them separately in his drawer?) He then offered a box that another customer had ordered and didn't pick up. He said I could have $90 out of it or the whole box. I took the whole box and found 5 more 40% and a 1994 proof.
Seems like the silver is much more scarce as compared to the last half of 2009. I only started in June of 09. For those who have been hunting for a few years continuously, is the silver cyclical or was 09 especially good due to the great coin dump / recession?

Hunting in the Sacramento area. Feel free to contact me if you would like to compare notes.
