Posy, just about every place is buying/reselling. I don't think much melting is going on. More $ to be made resale.

well 90 I just scaled myself back to 1 box per week, so I'm not expecting too much. I'm actually a little sad about it, but I mean the boxes I've gotten lately are just packed with roll hunter graffiti. one I got today had a "k" on nearly every single end. I'm not exaggerating either. when I opened the box up there were hundreds of halves with "k" on them inside the rolls too. all through the other 6 there were various symbols--triangles, squares, initials, "x", etc. and it's been going this way for the past month or so.

I have been doing about the same.
I am not going to quit but I'm going to knock down to 8 boxes weekly.
until I change halfs into cash.
I am getting tired of fighting the dump spots!!

it's very difficult recently....there are way too many people half hunting. It seems you cant go into a bank without having a teller tell you there is at least 1 other person who comes in looking for them. Thank God there isn't much silver in the nickels, so they haven't gotten hit that hard yet.

yeah and it was kind of weird. I mean it happened sort of all at once. I blame the interweb. perhaps we've been telling a few too many people about the wonders of coin hunting.

there's probably still plenty of silver still out there though for those of you still searching, especially if people like me an 90 drop off a bit.

I have not had much luck lately searching a few rolls now and then. Today I got 2 customer wrapped rolls and pulled out 12- 40% and 1- 1964.

So, there is still a little left to find.

I've skunked on my last 5 boxes - todays was the worst - no NIFCs or silver. Oddly enough the box was packed in November and hardly marked up.

Maybe I'll get a winner in my next set of boxes!

Hey SD...those gals at the Brinks office keep all the silver....in fact one gal said she sold all of her silver half dollars last summer for a new wardrobe! They are all nice people at the Brinks office...but it still upsets me after I found out they take all the silver out.

Does Brinks have separate regional offices (i.e. processing areas)? I want to be as far from those gals as possible.

Is this just heresay that Brinks is culling silver? I've heard rumors for a couple years....so far it's been just that. I have heard of employees being fired for such action. But that's just it, it's all been rumor. I wish someone could provide some kind of hard proof to dispell rumor.

I think it is hearsay that the armored car companies are grabbing silver because if they all were doing it, then none of us would be finding anything. I work for a very large bank and have contacts in the banks 'money center' and vault area. I have gotten to know a lady who works for the vault services area and she told me she used to work at Brinks, in cash processing services. I told her how I collect coins and asked her if Brinks ever let her swap out for silver or old currency. She firmly said 'absolutely not.' If anyone was caught doing this, they would be fired, no questions asked. Remember, armored car companies provide cash/coin services for a bank, the cash they are processing doesn't actually belong to them. Armored car companies are a means of transport, processing and storage for banks/financial institutions. I would think that the procedures at these companies strongly warn against mixing personal cash with customer cash. I'm not sure which Brinks branch a previous forum member was referring to regarding 'the women swapping out silver. Also, I know of no coin operation in any armored car company where the coins are rolled by hand, way too time consuming. Everything is done by machine now.

Lets face it - with the high price of silver and everyone searching for silver, it is simply drying up. Demand far outweighs supply. As I posted previously, if silver was being pulled, nobody here would be finding anything and everyone would be getting skunked. Besides the occasional decent finds in a box, it is nothing like it used to be 5 or 6 years ago when I first started searching boxes. Just my 2 cents on the topic....
