can you post pics of the DDOs? I have yet to find one, a pic might help me. Thanks. Monkey

Monkey, DDO means DOUBLED DIE OBVERSE (the heads side). Here's what a 1974-D DDO looks like:

JFK-Half-Dollar-Roll-Hunters:-Silver,-Proofs-And-Other-Finds

It is probably the easiest to find of all the Kennedy doubled dies. The PUP (pick up point) is in the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST". As you can see, there is a definite crease in the right leg of the "R" in trust and is the dead giveaway. Hope this help you in your search---

I've never found anything in any Brink's boxes- total skunked!

All of my finds are from String & Son, Harriburg PA Yellow and White wrappers.

Congrats again!

Thanks for the pic. I know what DDOs are, but I never really saw one.
I saw a DDO penny and it had basically 2 dates. I know the
halves are a little more subtle, but I see not impossible to see.
Sometimes I think I see doubling but it is my imagination.
I can see it clearly on your coin. Thanks again. Maybe now I will find one.

There are 2 types of doubling---1 is true doubled dies and the other is known as "strike" or "mechanical" doubling.

The coin shown is a "true" doubled die---where the defect was on the master hub when the coin was struck. A "mechanically" doubled coin is a coin the that shifts position while under pressure from the strike hub.

Generally, Mechanical Doubling is pretty common on large coins (like Kennedys), and adds little or no extra value to the coin---whereas true doubled dies can be very scarce and hard to find, but usually bring a nice premium---some of them, VERY large premiums, like the 1955 Lincoln Cent DDO.

See this great article about how to tell the difference:

Good luck and keep us posted!

2 string and sons boxes:
4 40%
1 Gold Plated, 1985 (Stamped 1960 on left of portrait, 1985 stamped on right of portrait)
1 Colorized Obama half (JFKs face left un-colorized, with 'Time For Change' on top and B.O. portrait on right side).

And Chuckster, did your bank give you any problems ordering ten boxes?

Searched 2 boxes this week and found 5 40%'s. Also was moving an old chest and found an 65' Kennedy in one of the drawers. Chuckster and 90, congrats on the score.

mitchhailey:

No problem ordering boxes- I split my orders between 2 banks for a better mix as they come in on different days etc and I try NEVER to dump at the ordering bank's so as not to aggrevate them etc!

Happy Hunting to all!
