I opened another account yesterday, at a different bank to use as my drop off point, and dropped off two boxes worth (loose, in a bag). Do you return the halves in bags or rolls? What works best? SDcoinguy Pillar of the Community United States 2424 Posts	Posted 02/11/2011 1:41 pm when I asked about the different boxes at my chase branch, they told me "whatever is on the truck". what does that mean? I assumed it to mean that when banks place coin orders, if they already have coin in the truck, that one will be delivered. so, if one bank that uses strin n sons has a box of halves, no one picks it up, it can go back on the truck and a bank that is usually brinks, then takes it b/c it is available? other opinions>? "this chase changed over carries from string n sons to the clear plastic wrapped(no finds) coins. the halves I get have been the double stacked brinks like. and just yesterday I get a long string n sons box. how does that happen?> Report this Post to the Staff
chuckster 125 Pillar of the Community United States 4113 Posts	Posted 02/11/2011 3:00 pm I'm luck- I have dump banks that use coin counting machines- no rolls/bags just bring it in and dump into the drough! SDcoinguy: Maybe Chase does things different on the West Coast? Chase Banks are almost 99% always String & Son Boxes by me here in NJ. I have had a few boxes that had black & white labels and a few with a Golden brown and White label ( don't know who they are) but Brink's is usually labeled as Brinks and I've never gotten a Brink's box from Chase. I do know that most of the time the bank employees have no idea whose wrapping what- when I mention String& Sn or Black & White labels or plastic wrappers, I get the "Deer in the head-light look" so Idon't even bother to inquiry anymore, just as long as they are not Brink's boxes ( nothing but disaster's by me) I'm happy. Here are a few pics of 2 - 1972P- DDO'S that I found recently. I've found around 6 of these so far. Every letter in WE TRUST has notches- very easy to see with a 5X Magnifying glass. I just keep a tub in front of me, crack the rolls, scan the dates and quickly toss 'em in the tub. Does it take much longer to use a loupe/glass? I mean, if your searching ten boxes that seems like it would take all day and night. My wife would kill me if I did that. ;) So what's the secret to finding DDOs and other varieties in a timely manner? Report this Post to the Staff

chuckster 125 Pillar of the Community United States 4113 Posts	Posted 02/12/2011 08:39 am I select specific dates- primarily all 1972 P and 1974D and put them on the side as I open each roll. Only takes a couple of seconds to look at the IN GOD WE TRUST area with my 5x mag. I always examine each coin in each roll- doesn't take long to flip through 20 coins. just a fast glance/flip it over for any die rotation errors etc and on to the next coin. I do not rim search- too many times I would have missed a Silver half because the rim was not a given as being Silver- especially on 1969D JFKS! I'm 100% certain that I don't miss any Silver coins! I only do anywhere from 6 to 10 boxes over a 2/3 day period each week, so it's no rush time wise (I'm Retired!). Everyone does things different, but this is what I do for halfs.
