I am going to try my first Kennedy search this week. My bank said they could order me $1000 bags of Kennedys. I have never heard of searching bags. Is this a bad way to do it? I've only read about searching boxes of them. I ordered 2 bags that will be in later this week.

Danmc00,

Some banks order from Fed, and others from Brinks.

A lot of banks have boxes when are similar to pennies, and other denominations. For halves boxes cost $500, and for bags its $1000.

A lot of people like the bags because its quicker to go through, and some also think they have better luck with bags. With boxes you can get bank rolled, and what not.

Its really the your preference because usually you can find a bank that will order you boxes, and one that will order you bags.

Remember, careful where you dump your coins don't want the same ones back.

danmc00,

I was getting 2 bags a week for a couple of months and was having good success. Two weeks hit a dry spell though. My arm muscles were definitely getting bigger though :-D

I hit 4 banks Saturday morning by my inlaws. It was the first time I've ever half-hunted out there so I had high hopes. Alas - nothing but 2 clad halves. I got the dreaded "some guy came in this morning and took all our halves" at one bank.

As far as I know, it's 1987 and then 2002-present.

What do you all say when you're opening an account and you're wanting them to order the halves for you? Since the credit union canned me I've been trying to open accounts at new banks for ordering half dollars and I can't get any to do it. Just wondering what others are saying when they're getting a new account at a new bank for ordering halves.

I tell banks either that I'm looking for a bank to order me some halves or that I'm looking for a bank that will not hassle me for dumping lots of coins and I say that if it will be a problem ever, I just won't open an account. Obviously, nobody has ever said it would be a problem (and it's never been a problem yet), but I assume it will eventually be a problem with somebody, so I like that I can go back to whoever I talked to and say "Hey, you said this would not be a deal and now it is a deal." Hopefully they would help me find a way to make it not a deal.

Hey Russ (or anyone else that randomly posts that they went through 10 boxes), do you guys usually just hit like 5 banks for 2 boxes each on one day, or how do you do it? I've been thinking of proposing to a bank, to make it easier on everyone, to be like "hey can I just order like 30 boxes and come get them once a month?" ... or maybe something less huge, but basically offer that we could order a bunch, I'd pick them up one day, and then not bother them again for the rest of the month.

Obviously, i'd just have to ask and see what they say, but have any of you guys ever tried that?

Rawmeat...my 10 boxes was from the same bank and was the first time I have ever ordered such a large quantity. And to be honest, banks will look at how much money you have on deposit to see if you are worth their time.

one box of already searched coins (they were the crimped on both edges rolls and one end was folded over not crimped and the rolls were marked)
I checked them anyways and came up with 1 NIFC
2001 P
no hole fillers
only need 64D, 65,70D, 87P&D, 08-11 P&D
considering how only 2 aren't NIFC I'm proud of that

I normally do cents, but I decided to ask one of my banks about halves. The teller was nice enough to tell me that they are someones dump bank so anything I would get from them (not ordered) has already been searched.

I just got my first box of halves. I looked in the Blackbook guide and no dates really look to have more value than others for the most part. Aside from the silver coins, which are best to keep? Thanks!
