Angel: I know banks send currency/coin back to the FED when they have surplus. However, I would think banks would be reluctant to send coin due to shipping costs?

They can only keep so much in the vault and they basically have a set'vault' range amount. Years ago when some deposited bagged coin from laundry, casino etc, they would ship out and keep what is usual for ongoing transactions for the particular branch. Yes, there are fees for coin/cash shipments.

I have dumped every box of halves that I have purchased into Capital One coin machines. I wonder how much I have cost them! lol

Supposedly, Brinks charges a flat-fee for all of the coin. Whether it's 1 bin or 100 bins a month. However, Capital One is responsible for the coin machine maintenance. |

In reference to the tellers who go through boxes that customers order.
A year and a half ago I had a branch manager that wanted to charge me to order boxes for a flat fee per month. After thinking about it, I moved my checking account, minus $100 to another bank that told me no problem getting boxes of halves. I have left my savings with the first bank for the time being. I have other investments with this bank, only with a different person, whom I like. After I switched, I was talking to the manager who told me he was getting boxes on his own, and finding a lot of silver. Since then I have taken everything else to the second bank.
I know it is a "favor" extended to us by the banks, but we are customers with our money that is providing their jobs. I say to them: Leave well enough along.
Now Bank #1 gets most of my dumps.

got my 3 bags in other day all 3 bags were marked loomis is loomis bags a lost cause in finding anything in them week before I got 2 bags 1 loomis and 1 that was not loomis I have went threw 4 bags of loomis coins and found nothing is bag searching hit and miss like everything else

Quick question for you all. What has been the likely hood of banks just having halves rolls on hand, I can't front the cash for 1,000 dollar order right now, but 100, 200 bucks for rolls here and there. Also, do any of you guys have a Cherry Pickers Guide for halve hunting? That'd be amazing! Thanks for helping! Edited by Shavill

I once went to a bank to get a second mortgage in the amount of 10,000. I told the loan officer that I would only take to loan if they gave me all of it in half dollars. They did order all of the boxes. I was in the same bank the other day and they were still laughing about it. If I were buying a house it would have been better. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

My weekly 2 box order of halves: no silver, 2 NIFC, couple nice upgrades. My dump bank happened to have 2 boxes on hand and they gave up 7 40%ers. Go figure. Sadly, in Chicagoland, a 5 40% box is quite a find. Also found a nice MAD and a 1971D DDO in the last month that I have posted in the Variety/Error section. |

What do you all say when you're opening an account and you're wanting them to order the halves for you? Since the credit union canned me I've been trying to open accounts at new banks for ordering half dollars and I can't get any to do it. Just wondering what others are saying when they're getting a new account at a new bank for ordering halves.

it took me a while to find someone that will order half dollars for me I just ask was told by a bank teller never hurts to ask so I do lol they order me bags of 1000 but havnt had any luck yet gonna order three bags this coming week

I live in a fairly densely populated area with tons of banks and no matter where I go the Otis rolls I get seem to always have marked coins. I guess there are dozens/hundreds of guys searching and researching each others dumps.

Just to throw in my Two Cents (or 50). I have gone through 3 cases of 500 coins each and I came up with 1 1964 and 1 1967. |
