The silver curse has got you, you're doomed to forever chase the high from that dream box you just had... At least until you get bored of the hobby

Up until now every silver half I got and probably most all NIFCs came from BofA. I broke the streak today with a 1967 from 19 bucks at chase.

Do the "s" proofs have the silver looking edge to them? Or do they look like the typical 50 center (sandwich)

Quote: I hope you guys don't think I'm insane about this question, but when I first started searching it felt like I'd know a silver because it felt lighter (in addition to the "ting" it would make against other coins). Looking at a 90%er and holding it, to me, feels like it is REALLY light. Like, made out of aluminum light. Anyway, as I learned a little more, I learned that they are supposed to weigh MORE than regular coins - so I weighed some and lo and behold, the silver is like a gram more than the 1971+ ones.
I happened to mention to my wife that it is odd that the silver feels lighter, but is actually heavier. She actually agreed and said she thought it was weird too. SO.... since we are both experiencing it I thought I would ask: 1. has this been mentioned before? 2. Do you guys experience this? 3. If I'm not the only person that thinks this, has a reason for this been discussed before? So I guess this means I'm just insane, eh? I knew it!

Rawmeat, yes I've wondered that before too. I didn't know they actually weighed more though.
So I just went through my box for the week... SKUNKED!! :( 1,000 coins and nothing good, NOTHING!

Quote: What's the best way to monetize impaired proofs? I have come across quite a few...some look great but others have some dings.. Well there are people are trying to obtain impaired proofs. For example, here is my post of what I am still looking for: https://goccf.com/t/87302&whichpage=2#732719Of course, all of the normal rules of buying & selling apply. Ken

No box just a lucky strike from a teller. Too bad I'm burning it off in gas I shake my fist at you Obama and your desire for skyrocketing energy prices!

Quote: Opened an account at US Bank today. Explained that for various reasons I was upset with my bank at the time and was specifically choosing US Bank because of access to the coin counter and that I'd close all my accounts and go elsewhere the first time some teller gave me grief about dumping. I explained that I could just start somewhere else if that would be a problem. Spoke with a couple desk-people and a real branch manager and everyone said they would welcome my business. So I will see if I have a nice place to dump! ~ above is my post from About April 10, 2011. I am so upset right now. That particular branch that I went to to set up the account had something happen to the counter, so that I was not able to count their until about two weeks ago. Two Saturdays ago, I called over there and it was finally back, so I went and took in about 1400 bucks worth of half dollars. Today I took in about 1950 worth of half dollars -- mind you that I'd do less to stay under the radar -- if they had not told me when I joined the bank that I could bring in as much as I wanted whenever I wanted all day everyday and even joked about some other guy that brings in a pallet with thousands of dollars in coins regularly. One of the tellers came over and told me that "I couldn't do this here" and "this is too much" -- I told him that I'd already cleared it with US Bank when I set up my account and US Bank agreed that I could, and in fact, promised me that I would not get hassled for doing this. He said that I can't do it, we went back and forth like this for a while, until I explained that he was breaching the banks contract with me if he was going to forbid me from doing this. Eventually I was allowed to dump, but the bank manager says I can't dump there anymore. TWO DUMPS WAS ALL IT TOOK FOR THEM TO DECIDE NO MORE -- Jesus I am so upset. What the heck am I supposed to do now?

I get that, it's just, man, if it was going to be a problem, just tell me and I don't open an account. I've already received ~130 bucks in promo dollars from these guys for opening the account, and will probably keep the account open until I max out the 200 bucks that I can get, but I barely have had time to move money over to them. It can't have been worth their time to have me move this little bit of money over to them either -- there's not been enough time for me to have moved a bunch of money and be "stuck" with them because of inertia.

FWIW -- my 2 cents is that some folks have over done it and ruined it for others.
Case in Point - Some person around my area was doing close to 20 (twenty) boxes of coins a week at a bank and they started charged him / her a FEE for every BOX. From what the teller told me that put an end to what this person was doing.

i agree. too much. slow it down. greedy are we?
one box /week is what I can manage. even if I had more to spend, I just dont have the time, energy or patience to drive all over town, dump, pick up, dump... one box is enough for me. soon they will all be charging, thanks
