mfhorn.... Quote: Eaglefoot: Keep looking. Your ship is bound to come in. I was unloading silver treasure from "my ship" in port all the time last year. But this has been a DRY SPELL of legendary proportions around NE. Kansas this whole year of 2008.......box after box after box after box after box.... containing NADA !.....even customer/bank wrapped wrapped rolls too, which, once upon a time I was having great success with. It's just very frustrating..... And to think, I was even spotting 90% Silver in the Tellers tray right when I would pull up......once upon a time in 2007.

I picked up 9 rolls of customer wrapped halves from one of my banks today. I wasn't holding my breath because I'm pretty sure this bank is used as a dump. Often I will get a roll of all the same date coins. Well in these 9 rolls I found 4-40% and a 1977S.
This is the first silver I've found in many months. Eaglefoot, I'm in KCMO and I've gone through at least 5 boxes in the last 4 months with a big old nothing.

Just did seven boxes and pulled six 40%, a 50 pence, a couple of proofs and a handful of NIFC. I thought it was bad until I read the last few post and didn't realize how good things are up here in the great north.

Picked up $37.50 yesterday today in customer-wrapped from two banks. A third branch didn't ahve any, despite a month going by since I last visited. Got 2 more 40%. Need 13 to go to get to 100 for the year. Running out of time! -------------------------------------- My 2008 totals
5503 coins searched ($2751.50; $1000 were from Fed boxes, rest from customer-wrapped rolls) Finds (all from customer-wrapped, none from Fed boxes) 40%- 87 (1.6%) 90%-7 (6 JFK, 1 Franklin 1952D) PF silver clad-1 (76S) PF silver-1 (76S) PF clad-1 (96S, 86S) NIFC-2 (07D, 08P) 1974D DDO- 1

Keep looking eaglefoot. Don't give up.
I'm about to head out to get some customer-wrapped halves. Two branches I haven't been to in awhile each said they had over $100 apiece. Wish me luck!

I just picked up 911.50 in halves from three branches, one of which had $602. Teller said they've had it a long time. I'm just hoping it's not a dump. The loose $2 had 2 40% in it. I've gone through about $110 of the total and found 4 40%, a 76S proof BU and an 87P BU NIFC.
I'll report my overall findings after the holidays.

Finished searching the $911.50. $602 was from one branch, one customer and I was worried it was a roll searcher dump. It wasn't, but it had just 5 40% pieces (way lower than my 1.5% average). The great find was the rare 1974 D DDO, my second one this year! I also got a 1999D that was colorized with the Connecticut 1999 State Quarter design on the half. The rest had more silver- 21 40%, 1 90%, 1 NIFC (a BU 87P), and 1 Proof (76S BU) So, got 26 total 40%, bringing my yearly total to 113. In 1,823 coins, there were just 2 78, 5 78D, 5 79D, 2 82P, 7 82D, 2 85P, 2 85D, 3 86P, 3 86D. These dates continue to be very tough and in most cases, getting them in nicer condition is a real challenge. I think the JFK series is a real sleeper. Most of the 1980s coins are a real challenge to find in decent grades from circulation, possibly due to extensive casino use. I did get a few BU 89Ps, which I didn't have before. Happy hunting! -------------------------------------- My 2008 totals 7326 coins searched ($3663; $1000 were from Fed boxes, rest from customer-wrapped rolls) Finds (all from customer-wrapped, none from Fed boxes) 40%- 113 (1.5%) 90%-8 (7 JFK, 1 Franklin 1952D) (0.11%) PF silver clad-1 (76S) PF silver-2 (76S x2) PF clad-1 (96S, 86S) NIFC-3 (87P BU, 07D, 08P) 1974D DDO- 2 1999D Colorized Connecticut 1999

Also recently found, ANOTHER fake rotated die half, this one a 1977-D obverse with the reverse insert positioned at about 75° CCW rotation. The seam at the reverse rim is visible, but just barely. I wonder who's going to the trouble of making these fakes? They're not fooling anybody!
