At the beginning of the Summer I got $500 worth of half dollars from the bank. Searched through every single roll and found a whopping two 40% silver coins from 1967. Not really worth the effort, if you ask me. I thought of bringing the rest back to the bank (or visiting the local CoinStar machine), but instead went to a local coin dealer and bought some nice early half dollars (Capped Liberty and Seated Liberty).

Noticed on ebay a seller is selling "unsearched bank roll" of Kennedy halves with "possible silver"...only costs about $16.50 plus another 3 something in shipping. Pic shows some silver coins that have been found in rolls before (but are not included in auction). This sounds like a profitable gig if anyone is buying; just get rolls from the bank and sell them on ebay for folks that are to lazy (or dumb) to go to the bank and get them direct for face value. go figure! (if I knew how to put an icon here of me scratching my head in wonderment I would)

Heh. I actually bought one of those rolls (although I only paid about $13 for it). Didn't find anything, but that's what inspired me to go to the bank and buy a box of 50 rolls to sort through.

Did you look at his previous sales basic? He's sold several rolls for $8-$9.50..take out ebay and paypal fees which are normally around 10%...it's good for people who don't/can't get whole boxes.

I'm twenty rolls into my first two boxes doing this time consuming treasure hunt. So far I have found a '67 (right at the top of the first roll-!); a '68; a 1980-s that looks like a frosted proof; and LOTS of color-marked halves that give evidence of at least four different searchers' dumps, or one searcher using four different marker colors. Oddly, both the rolls with silver in them also had marked coins. And there have been lots and lots of Bicentennial halves. I'll report again when I'm done with the second box. I have limited time available for this effort, but I can see the appeal already. Are there any special non-silver dates or errors I should be watching out for? Good hunting, silver hounds.

As someone who occasionally sell coin lots on ebay (IKEs, not scamming half dollar rolls), I can attest that sometimes it's a crap shoot. You don't want to set the start bid high (I like to start at $1) since no one wants to look at it. But then sometimes you risk not getting what you want. For example, I had 2 lots of 25 IKEs go for $26.10 and $24.75! Under face value! I usually try for $30 to make a 10% profit after fees. After shipping, ebay and Paypal fees, I'm out $10 over those 2 lots easy. It's a hit and miss.

That's why I wait for 1 cent days to list those types of auctions. I'll start my auctions at how much I want to get on 1 cent days, because there's not much to lose if it doesn't sell.

4 more boxes last night only got me one 64. I've been on a major dry streak lately. Taking the next couple of weeks off from searching.

Finally, I mean FINALLY I caught a break. Hope was bleak for me since it has been so extremely dry up here. The second roll I grabbed had 2 90%s in it! One Ben and One Kennedy, I thought OH BoY I might have a great Box here! That all fadded away until I got to the last roll. Ironically, it gave up a 40%... SO from the second roll to the last roll, nada . One thing to note, there were many many different roll searchers marks on almost all the coins, amazing how random things can be in this game. I am so happy I could cry :) I will take this any day of the week!

Quote:Anyone with a lot of Magician's coins want to send me one for a nominal fee? LMK! Ironically, they seem to sell on ebay for around twice what a 90% is worth, so a nominal fee might be hard to come by. For me, it's probably going to be the coolest thing I ever find roll-searching, plus I guess it belongs to my wife since she found it :)

Just went through my weekly $500 box. Found a 67, 68, 69, and a 1943!, my first liberty find. Last box, was pretty much nothing, so I did not post on it.

Nice job BuffaloBuffoon, and thanks for the picture! I love seeing the silver in rolls from the side view like that.
