Yesterday morning, I stopped in at a Capital One branch near my house and asked the teller if he had any half dollars. He said he had $67 worth in two small envelopes, so I bought them. Out of those 134 half dollars, 95 of them had silver in them! There were 20 halves with 90% silver (all 1964 Kennedy's), and the other 75 were 40% Kennedy halves. Not to mention the other 11 40% silvers that I found over the weekend, not a bad vacation's worth of hunting!

1964 x20
1965 x3
1966 x9
1967 x23
1968 x29
1969 x11

as I was talking to her she asked me if I collected dollar coins and told me she had one that was annoying cause she had no place for it, so I bought it. It was a 72 s Eisenhower another 40%.
I would have called any Eisenhower dollar a win, but that is even better!

That is an excellent haul, TheDanMan!

Thanks, Jbuck. Quick question: How many half dollars can those plastic tubes hold?

Okay good. I have 87 total 40% halves plus the 20 total 90% halves (counting one that I bought for $5.30 the week before last), so hopefully five tubes will be good enough.

But do people really not know that 1965-1970 half dollars have some silver in them? It's amazing how whenever people actually manage to find silver, it's almost always a 40% half.

Four Loomis boxes gave up 4 1964's an 28 40%. I am very happy with that.
Rest in Peace

I have never found a 1970. Are they out there?

They were never made for circulation, just 70d in mint sets, and 70s in proof sets, but they've had 40 yearsto get stolen or inherited and spent.

At one point, the more popular 70d would bring $30 for a typical unc.

Nice find Danman. I always love it when tellers pull out envelopes. In my experience, they usually have silver in them.

After no silver for two weeks, I finally broke my skunk streak on box 15. 5 boxes yielded 7 silver, a 64 and 6 40s. I have 4 more coming. Hopefully I have cleared out those skunk boxes.

Not really a roll find but today as I was picking up my weekly two Brink's penny boxes I asked my teller if she had any halves and she said all she had were some loose ones someone dropped off from tips. Do I want them? Sure.

The Sovereign bank I had gotten my boxes from doesn't seem to get them for me anymore. Anyway another small bank I go to had $78 last week and nothing. But I asked them to call be if anymore come in and $60 today and 1 1967. Not bad for a few rolls!

Dan you are the man! Excellent haul!

We've been going through some horrible boxes the last couple of weeks but today we found 28 40%ers and 3 64s! One of the 68s was really nicely toned but the coin is kinda jacked up. But I like it anyway and I'm keeping it!

By the way, I just want to let you guys know that Smokeriderdon was in a motorcycle accident on Saturday and broke his leg right at the kneecap. He's been sitting around with his leg propped up ever since and can't make it to the computer. I'll have to see about getting a laptop for him or something because I know he'd like to come back and chat for awhile. Hopefully I can find one for a good price somewhere.
