Jizr1, your coin has most likely been polished. It becomes more shiney and smooth, but takes on an odd look. It is a shame when people polish old coins like that.

Sorry. I had a lot of trouble with the pictures. Also I finished the box. Total find 19 40% 4 90% jfk and 2 walking liberties! Here is the picture with the walker that looks and feels funny. Almost polished. Let me know what you think.

I got a 1967 40% silver Also I have noticed that more and more machine wrapped coins are cut open on the side and taped back up. I need to stop getting these rolls because I don't find anything.

Are the boxes sealed when you get the cut rolls?

Quote: Are the boxes sealed when you get the cut rolls? I never asked them, so I have no idea. I know that the ends of the rolls are sealed, but that's it.

I went into my local shop today and the owner said that the walker was plated in gold and someone also chrome plated it ! So sad, but I got a 44 s in very fine condition from the same box [d-pepper. Well I dumped all the coins today, and when I went into the bank the teller said that people have been asking for rolls of halfs and that she was happy to take them. I was surprised and then handed her 690 dollars in rolls, but I didnt dare mention that they had been searched. Its funny, the one box I opend was searched through and marked, but the other one didnt have a single mark. I'm wondering if the wrapping company just re warps the boxes as they get them. Too bad I cant request the boxes sitting at the bottom of the pile.

I'm actually surprised that after all these years Silver is still found in rolls. Sometimes I think many don't realize that there were years of 40 percent after 1964. Also the recent proofs can be silver as well. Have to check everything. I got a gold shiny 2004 yesterday in a roll. Any ideas on its worth? Thanks

@angel2004- You must remember that there were over 429 Million 90% silver halves minted in 1964 ALONE there were over 843 Million 40%ers minted, not including proofs or 70-D Not to mention the Franklins, Walking liberties and to an extant the Barbers.
IMHO there is still a lot of silver sitting in people's houses just waiting to be dumped. I dont think, even after almost 50 years, silver halves could be depleted from circulation. I have a feeling that a large portion of the halves minted are still sitting around, and have yet to be dumped in to circ. The halves that come in boxes are recycled over and over again, with, IMHO, very few silvers being added. So I think we have a time to wait before another reccesion hits and silver is again dumped into circ.
