I'm new to the coin hunt and to this topic. Started out couple weeks ago searching through 12 boxes with only 5 contains couple 40% ers. The rest were totally skunk . I found that someone here do search the 1k bag. I'm wondering how to obtain these bags. Can I ask the teller specifically that I do need them loose in bag?

I guess it would depend on your bank. Do they have a coin machine? That's where the bags come from. Some banks only hold $100 some hold $500. They usually take a few months to get a full bag from one bank.

Thank you LTMets44.

No, the banks I ordered the boxes don't have the coin sorters. So I guess I'm going to stick with the box.

I stopped at a different branch today to deposit some of my halves as I felt bad that the head teller who helps me out at my branch where I get my boxes from had to change out the bag last time when I dropped off a few last week and I ended up with the same teller 2 weeks in a row. Both times she asked me if I found anything as most people don't and luckily I found a few Franklins the last 2 weeks I could brag about. As I was leaving one of the "bankers" stopped me (I guess that is what you call the people in the cubicles vs. behind the counter) and she asked me where I take my finds and I told her I keep them all (but hopefully someday I can trade them for a nice 1923-S and 1919-S SLQ to finish my set). She said her husband had a bunch of silver coins (I guess from her picking). I told her about ebay and the downside of their fees, Craigslist, your local coin store, etc but now I guess I should have given her my number and said give me a call I'll take it off of your hands.

. . . to dump $300 in Half Dollars in the Penny Arcade. Like always, he filled the bag and a teller had to come over to empty it. As she grabbed the full bag of half dollars (someone who dumped before my father) she dropped it on the floor. Two Walking Liberty's fell out. My fathers jaw dropped. She pick one up and said, "Aren't these worth more than a half dollar?" Thinking quick, my father told her that he accidentally dumped the wrong bag. He asked if they was any way that he can have that bag back. She gave him the 1st bag of $100 and exchanged it with the coins he was dumping.

So he traded $300 face for $100 face with only 2 guaranteed silvers?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. He ended up giving the bank $300 in Halfs, and in return, received $200 cash and $100 in the coins that had 2 guaranteed silvers. So ultimately he exchanged $300 for $300. And the 2 guaranteed silvers turned into 21 silvers. =D
