I am in the solid roll club! I bought all 15 rolls that a small town bank had. 13 of them had dates from the 70's written on them and two were blank. One of the blank rolls was all 1971 and the other blank was solid silver! Three 90% Kennedy's and seventeen 40% Kennedy's.

Biggfredd: I would say a cement truck is a little small for the damage done to this coin. I'm thinking it was a tank. lol Trapper: yea I dont think they knew either. I'm just going to go back and arrange for them to call me whenever the other guy deposits half dollars. That way I can get the first crack at them and the bank gets rid of them.  |

I have yet to get a solid roll of silver (but I found enough silver on page 582 to make 4 rolls, plus 7.50 more in face value). |

Finally scored some silver today. Stopped in at a credit union and grabbed 7 40% and a 1964 loose from the teller tray.

Not bad! I scored a bit of silver myself today: a 1966 Kennedy from a teller tray! That's number 123 of 40% coins that I have found for just $0.50!  |

I just got two more boxes today. Skunked in terms of silver. But I got my first proof! 1973-S. It's in circulated condition, but it stood out pretty strongly. I also got a few NIFC, but I'm getting tired of spending time going through boxes when I've never got a single silver from a box... UGH!

Just finished four Loomis boxes yesterday and almost got skunked, walked away with a lone 1969. They were an interesting four boxes though, because while they only yielded 1 40%, I also pulled a grand total of 67 NIFC's. Scraped just enough for a full P&D set of 2002-2011, with a whole bunch of 2004-P's and 2009's.
On a related note, I dumped a box of quarters at a TD bank's penny arcade today and added two halves to round out for the four quarters that I pulled. My total came to $488 and the receipt only showed ONE half. I had a teller take a look and shake loose whatever might be stuck- final total of $506.24 ($5.24 more than I put in!) So be warned, if you think you've been shorted (even if only by a few coins), make sure to have a teller give the tray a quick shake.

you mean, whether you get anything good or not?
has anyone ever been able to buy from coinstar? that would be the greatest, I would think, to own one of those machines.
probably get tons of silver dumped in them.

jbm - I pick the tray out myself at TD Bank and shake it. Rejects also get stuck in the white PVC pipe that leads to the reject tray. I put my hand up it and find some extras sometimes. I'm sure I'll get yelled at one day but they are pretty nice at all the TDs near me.

Some banks get coins from bigger banks, so if their upstream doesn't have them, or if the small bank doesn't want to mess with (and pay to get) them, you won't get them. This is especially true with halves, which are rarely required by businesses.

Yes the halves will be a special order but in the coin and currency order for the bank. They usually order one time per week probably a day or 2 prior to shipment. Some will do some won't. It will help if you bank there. My 2 banks aren't real excited about bothering to get them so I don't ask often. Another bank calls me when they get some on deposit out of 2 groups I got 1 40percent so I know the tellers there aren't searching

BernieZ - you can buy boxes from most banks - you have to order them in advance. One of my banks allows you to buy a $500 box and the other requires a $1000 minimum for them to order for you. Some require a business account.
The easy answer is find a teller, ask nicely and see what your options are. Just make sure you have a place to dump - you don't want to be stuck with that much in half dollars!
