In picking up a box of nickels the teller saved me $8 in halves in a plastic bag at the bank: 6 of'em 40% silvers. :-)

I went to the bank to deposit a check today. While I was waiting I asked the teller if she had any halves. She said she did, but that the guy already said he looked through them for silver. Since its a small credit union, I offered to take them off her hands anyway and deposit them at BoA. She was extremely happy to get rid of them. Well I opened one up just to check to see if there was the correct number in there. Well sure in enough out popped a 69 half. I searched through the rest and got 3 silver I guess Mr. silver searcher wasnt aware that silver was minted post 64 lol. Check out this beauty I pulled out of circulation...

Or the teller was wise to the game and was trying to throw you off the trail. :-)

Are the rolls new ones rolled by the mint collected from around the country or ones brought in by locals?

I finsihed up my first box of half's last night, no silver but I did find a very nice 2003-S Proof. I also took 4 rolls of the tellers hands that turned out to be mint rolled uncirculated P&D half dollars that have a gold tone to them. I indeed plan to search more boxes, that was the most fun I have had in a while.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

trapper, Amen!

Hondo *sigh* OK, again...

1) I do not mark collectable coins. Any coins I mark, you are NOT going to keep.
2) Any marks I make are easily removed with acetone, so pitching a coin that is otherwise OK because of ink marks is a waste. And my mark is my initials DDII.
3) We dump our coins at TD banks which ship them out to be wrapped and come back through TD. so unless you are getting boxes from TD, not me.

FYI, there are several people that mark coins that float in this area. One uses a blue marker, one marks the ear, one fills in the area under the date and one uses bingo markers and there is a JW out there. All people aside from me.

I see a guy on ebay selling unsearched rolls of Kennedy halves for upwards of $18 per roll. What?! He declares "silver possible" and very kindly offers free shipping. I can't believe people fall for this.

Went through 8 boxes over the long weekend. I started off with three skunks but ended with 19 40% and 1 JFK 90% in the last five boxes.

Hi everyone, great thread!

I ask for halves everytime I go to a bank for rolls. Usually, they all say "I have none" or have a dollar or two's worth.

Last time, one of the tellers had $70 worth, and I felt like I just won the jackpot!

Took em all home and went thru, but found no silver or even 40%'ers, but it sure was fun!

Don't have a list, next time!

I just took the ones I needed in my Dansco, and sold the rest to my dentist!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone!
