The difference between FED boxes and Brinks boxes depends upon the bank. Large banks carry an inventory of currency/coin at an armored car company in a vault specific to that bank. Smaller banks who do not need to have a large currency inventory deal directly with the FED for cash/coin. It is simply easier for the smaller banks to pay for the FEDs services than to have cash inventory. FED boxes are yellow and brown with holes in the bottom and are a rectangular shape with 50 rolls of coins. The coin wrappers are yellow and white. Brinks/armored car carrier boxes are more square shaped, two rows of 25 rolls on top of each other and come in brown boxes with black lettering. The rolls are white with gray/brown lettering. Hope this helps.

The fed boxes (yellow print on brown cardboard with holes on the top) either have green, gray or black dashes around the ends of the roll. Last week they were black. This week they were gray.

SilverEagle:
I can get either kind of box, and both are delivered by an armored car service. Around here the small square boxes are used by Brinks, while the long rectangular box is used by Garda (formally AT Systems). The third armored car company, Dunbar, I haven't been to a bank they serve yet.
So, as far as a FED box and a Brinks box, I'm thinking they are all independent contractors to provide coin/currency to branch banks.

I suppose some banks get them direct from fed, but most are probably from a contractor. I know that what I call a fed box goes through at least 1 other company before the bank gets it.

I've got my first box ever coming to my bank for me on Thursday. I know it's in this thread somewhere, but can someone please direct me to exactly what I'm supposed to be looking for? A link to another thread, or even a post in this one, would be fine.

Thanks.

Skunked!

I went through two FED boxes and one Brinks box yesterday and there was nothing in either! Happy searching to all and I will see what next week brings.

I was at the bank the other day and the tellers change holder was by the window. I always look at it and I was surprised when I saw a "white" looking half. It was what I could see from the side angle. I thought it was going to be a 40% but it ended up being a 1964. She was like, would you like to buy it from me? I said sure! 50 cents please was her response.

Was out picking up some boxes today and stopped to checkout a mall bank. Asked for halves and the teller pulled out $9.50 - nothing there. As I was leaving another teller said "we have some in the vault and I checked them and saw some silver, do you want them?". Uh yea I'll take them all I said. She returned with $80 in customer rolls. Wasn't a jackpot but scored seven 64's. Did three boxes and pulled one 64 for my efforts. Slow month on the returns but was nice to hit a few today!
