Hey Okie

I just got off the phone with one of my friends at RCB Bank in catoosa they let the Security Gards at RCB loot the silver out of the coins before they roll them so looks like I will be doing my drops at RCB.

I went to my dump bank to cash my paycheck (a TD bank here in Amherst, MA) and they had a promotion going. Guess the half-time entertainment for this year's Super Bowl, win a half-dollar. The teller, upon handing me my prize, remarked "So, how long has it been since you held this coin? Three days?"
Something tells me it might be time to give that branch a break...

So do y'all just rim search for silver and proofs or do you look at each date for key/semi key dates or errors?

Personally, I make an effort not to rim search. I think it is much more fun going through each coin by itself. I'm sure if/when I get to the point where I'm going through a few boxes a week, I will start to rim search.

I personally go through all the rolls first and look for silver. Then I drop them back into their wraps and spend the week searching them one by one. If I don't do the work(non-silver searching), I feel I don't earn the reward (silver!).

If I didn't do each one, I would miss key date coins, like the '87 I found last night.

I rim search first, then my kids search for key dates and S mint marks. Not too interested in looking for doubled dies or anything like that - I don't have the eyesight or the patience for such detailed analysis.

I would NEVER just rim search, I would have to say about 15% of my finds look no different on the rim than a copper/nickel clad half. Once 40%ers get beat on the rim a bit they look the same. That and finding proofs is a joy ( especialy when you have everything in your dansco BU except that darn 70D)

I go through each roll one at a time looking for Doubled Dies, Die Clashes Clipped Planchets, etc besides looking for Silver.

Also, many a Silver coin has been missed by only opening a roll and going by the appearance of the rim.

I've found Silver coins in rolls that when first opened looked like all clad just by looking at the rim, but had a Silver Half in it.

1969D's are especially notorious for not looking like Silver on the Rim!*

Boxes 1,2, & 3 skunked.
Box 4, so far (1)1969, (3) NIFC 2011, and (1) NIFC 2004.
Still have 6 boxes waiting for me at the bank

Happy hunting everyone, and, just FYI, I like looking at each coin, I don't just rim search.

Great box Owassokie! Spotted a worn thin silver rim in 1 of today's 3 boxes. Beside's a 40%er, this was the only silver today, a 1919-D Walker in G-4.
