JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

I don't know how they are as far as boxes, but I know that each time I went in there for their loose halves, they gave me trouble about it because I didn't have an account. I understand this from a business perspective, but they way they give me attitude about it each time I go in is what bothers me.

Just yesterday, one started to give me attitude, when he said that NO banks will give ANY change if you don't have an account with them. Since he was giving me attitude, I sarcastically said back to him, "Oh, really? Tell that to the $700 in halves, and $100 in nickels I have in my car right now. I just went to 18 banks without any issue at any of them, but each time I come here, it is an issue", then I walked out. I have had issues with them in the past, when I had accounts, and now refuse to use them.

I don't have an account at any of the banks I pick up at, only at my dump bank, which has a machine. I'm still able to order boxes, or walk in and get boxes, at a First Niagara near me. The head teller is amazing, and I even gave her a $10 gift card to Dunkin' Donuts to show my appreciation yesterday when I went in for $100 more in nickels.

The head teller at two BB&T branches said it is a bank wide policy (all BB&T's) of not selling the bank boxes to regular nonbusiness customers. Thought I might be able to get a few loose rolls and they told me no on that too. I decided to make them my dump bank from now on. I have set up an accout with the Wells Fargo branch in the adjacent parking lot. They said they will be most happy to get me whatever I need. Just let them know ahead of time, esp large orders, so that they can make sure to have on hand what I am looking for. They also promised to order my halves so we'll see. Most likely I will have to wait until beginning of next month to start ordering my halves because that is when I get paid. Unless, of course, I sell a few of my DDR's and such before then to finance getting boxes now.

Not sure what my present total is on my dump coins but I still have some bills yet that I will have to pay from these as they came from bill money. I got the coins to search prior to when my bills are due since I knew that I had time to search, dump and then pay them. But it will be even better when I get on a more regular weekly ordering of halves.

On an interesting side note, got a box of dimes to search yesterday and two dollar coin bwr's. They have President Garfield on them. Someone on ebay was up over $2 bidding on one coin from a bank wrapped roll. So I placed each of mine into holders to sell. That seller is doubling their money on Garfield.

Was able to get the rest of the materials to build my light box now I just need to get it done. Have lots to sell but need decent pics for ebay and such. Still find it interesting that people are buying the copper pennies in hopes that the moratorium will be lifted on melting them. My scale just came in. Am willing to sell the scrap ones for bullion. Saving the better ones for sale for set building.

Looking forward to my next chance to search another bank box of halves. Have had to content myself with searching nickels and dimes lately but payday is only a few weeks away and then the fun begins anew!

That's great Kat. Hope you find some more. The Frankie sounds great! Wells Fargo agreed to order my halves with the same proviso, open an account with them and set up direct deposit. Not a problem for me either.

There is such a rush of anticipation when you see those white and yellow wrappers! Then reality sets in due to the sheer number of coins. So I like to put one of my favorite movies on and then begin the sort.

Since I have to sit alot the coin searching helps pass the time, add some excitement to my day and fuel my hobby of collecting. So far, in the past month I have rescued a 1976S proof penny and a 2001S Kentucky proof quarter and found several error coins. I set aside all of the 2009 special Lincoln pennies and also all the shield pennies too. Found a 1996P error nickel missing the 1 and only a very faint first 9. The 5 DDR's still have me on cloud nine. I actually found 6 but one of them is in my 1970 uncirculated mint set that I have carried around for the last 20 years!

How many have heard people say to check the Coinstar machines when you are in a store that has one.

Today, while at WalMarts, I walked by one and someone had laid a dime on top of the machine. I picked it up
and it was a nice 1964 SILVER.

I just smiled as I double checked the open slot and walked on.

1StarLight, sorry to hear about your situation. It happened to me before. A bank chain in my area refused to order half boxes for anyone.

Also from your previous posts, it seems like someone(s) use that BB&T bank to dump their rejects. It also seems like BB&T bank in different town has coin counter (I hope I read your post right). Coin counter really helps a lot in long run. I wish I had that option, too. My take is that, you need to do all it takes to keep really good standing with BB&T. Don't be upset that they won't order boxes for you then dump all you can at that branch, especially where someone(s) already dump theirs. Keep in mind that our dumps add extra works to their employees. I did learn about this the hard way. I was quite upset with a teller at a bank and then next week I came in with all of my dumps. This went on for couple of weeks until the service manager pulled me into his office and politely closed my account. Hey, they also have rights to close one's account at their discretion. Last thing you want in this hobby is to upset any bank. In your case, I'd dump majority of rejects at the location of BB&T that has a coin machine. It's also a plus since it's in different town. You will have less chance to receive the same coins.

Another suggestion....don't be greedy when it comes to dumping your rejects. Try to find banks that no one dumps and set it as your primary dump bank but don't overload them. Spread out your dumps and, again, repeat after me....don't overload any banks in your network. You will need to set up a good network to dump before you even order boxes. Dump banks, to me, are the most important thing in this hobby. It took me weeks, after I was cut off from that bank, to find banks where no one dumped and set up good relationship with them. It pays in long run.

The last 3 days I went through 16 boxes, I only found

2 clad proofs 1978S and 2000S
Also found 2 triple clipped halves
My scanner quit on me when I get a new one I will post a picture of them.
I have 8 more boxes coming if no good luck I'm going to ease off for a while and do nickles.

What about hour and a half to 2 hours clockwise rotation error ? Any over face or should I toss it away together with the 2005 P ,2007 P D mint rolls I found today ?
