JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Pic of the skunk.... too funny. Ok, so today I did something I haven't done for a long while. I decided to stop of at an afternoon yard sale. It's kinda like searching the halves for silver. Scored big on a $5 spot. I looked through the little baggies of jewelry laying out on the table. Picked out a few that I spotted silver in and took my chance on a necklace in one that said Italy 14K. It was someone I met previously and bought some pictures from a few years ago. She remembered me and says.... "hey, can you wait a minute... I have a few more things in the house you might like." So I waited.... unfortunately, while I waited the neighbor's dog was run over in broad daylight and the driver never slowed down or stopped to help. The other woman who was sharing her yard for the yardsale brought over a large piece of plastic and I helped her roll the small dog onto the plastic. it was still alive at that point but quite mangled with a broken leg and busted ribs and fading fast. The lady who went back to get me some more stuff to look through knew whose dog it was so she and the other lady carried the dying dog over and laid it in her owner's yard to bury..... Yes,it was very sad.... but back to my story... Among all that I found on the table and what she brought out for me to look at were the following: enough silver and gold to score $45 in cash at a local pawn shop I know. Another piece of silver that they couldn't quite read the silver number on. So I will take it to another place that I know will buy it on Monday. I found a woman's powder case from Stratton England that would normally sell at a shop for around $45. A bracelet that has several coins on it from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Most of them are British coins. There were also two 1 ore Swedish coins, some 3 mil Cyprus coins and a 5 cent Mexican coin. They are gold(not sure if it's real gold) plated. It preserved the coins in very nice condition and they are presently all still attached to the bracelet. Additionally, there were two clan badges from Edinburgh Castle in Scotland that someone paid almost 12 British pounds for. These are in excellent condition and then finally there was a commemorative coin that was made from materials from the Statue of Liberty. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. One of the sponsor names is Plymouth car company which no longer exists. I told her the truth. All I had on me was the $5 so she said, "well, I guess if that's all you have then I'll let you have it all for $5!" Wow! What a steal of a deal! Oh, and I found the orginal first 3 Star Wars movies on Widescreen DVD at the pawn shop. I got the Trilogy in it's original case for $6 even. I told them that since they sold their other dvd's for $2 then how about letting me have those for $2 each. I still have the original release trilogy on VHS in pristine condition that I paid $.53 for at a thrift shop. The Statue of Liberty coin she brought out was a terrific surprise and I'm still grinning ear to ear about it and the silver and gold I sold.

So when I read on here about what everyone else is scoring it makes me happy to share in your joy. I just keep waiting for payday to roll back around so that I can get my halves in. i'll find silver there too when I can. But until then, keep sharing your finds. It's wonderful encouragement to read about it.

Silver Eagle: Congrats on the 40%er's and correct in *"NEVER" pass up any extra boxes!

*Last year I had one of my low count/bad weeks and the following day when I went in to buy rolls of pennies/nickels etc and ordered halfs for the following week, one of the tellers said they had an extra box of halfs and did I want to buy it?

I bought it and it ended up having something between 20/30 silver halfs which saved the week.

I have had a lot of good luck on the first two and hope the source is the same with the results being somewhere in
the same ballpark. This being said, I have heard it can be the mountain top on one box and the valley on the next.

i was away for the weekend so had 6 boxes waiting for me wish they werent they were all skunks

so I'm done for the week with halves cant catch any luck right now so ill hold off till next week

Normally I get pennies and ask for any halves the tellers have, I've never had them order a box of halves for me yet. I've gotten 6 40% out of $90 in rolls so far. I stopped in to one bank I found open today and got my first box of dimes. While I was in there I asked the teller for any rolls of halves she had, she didn't have any, the vault didn't have any, but the teller next to her spoke up that she had a roll I could buy. So I grabbed it because that teller didn't have them last week when I asked her. Pulled 2 90% 64's and 14 40% 65's-69's from the $10 roll. Had a very good president's day.

Bernie I had one of them kinda crappy days today --but when I read your post it kinda made me chuckle- so now I feel better anyways the way I figure it they owe you BIG time now : )

Thank you for sharing that with us tuleja. Very encouraging! Only a 9 day wait left until payday rolls around (pun intended). I am going to see just how many bank boxes of halves my buy bank is willing to order for me. I can get three at a time. So, if I can average sorting through 20+ boxes a day then I can get them to order me 69?! Yikes!;) boxes total. I can search 24 boxes Thursday (March 1st) throughout the day. Search 3 boxes, dump and repeat until all my boxes are searched. Friday I can search 24 boxes, 3 boxes at a time. Search, dump, then repeat until I get to the end of the day and the last of those 24 I can take my time to search over the weekend. Then on Monday I can search 21 more boxes. Search 3 boxes, dump and repeat. Then deposit all the money minus silver, etc. back into my dump bank to pay bills with. I actually have several dump branches with coin counters (Bless them, all the branches here have them.)that are very close to my buy bank. I believe in not overloading any one bank. Will be interesting to see just how many they are actually willing to order for me. Then I will start again when I get paid again on the following week. If my buy bank is willing to get all I ask from them then it will leverage the odds more in my favor with so many boxes. I'm bound to hit silver in at least a few boxes. I plan to follow the advice of fellow CCF members and bring in some food that all the bank tellers can share. Happy tellers = cooperative tellers.

Ah, and if this seems more like dreaming and they have a limit much lower than what I want..... well, I am on some wonderful pain meds for my knee that was hurting and in excruciating pain a little earlier. Took a short but fast trip through our local ER and to Walgreens. The whole trip cost me all of $.49 (Paid with a half and got a penny back)I paid to Walgreens for my 2 meds the DR prescribed. One for inflammation and another for pain. Ummm, first time my pain levels have receded this well so I guess that is why I am still wired and awake at 4:20am.....lol.

Oh, by the way.... I do have a personal helper in the late afternoons and evenings. My 14 year old godson is very eager to assist me and perhaps 1 or 2 more volunteers in addition to him. This is definitely a project of family proportions.

I have a terrific hand cart to transport my halves. If I feed my tellers good they might even give me a hand with their muscles....hmm. Note to self: feed tellers well!...lol.

Ok, guess I have rambled enough for one night...... well maybe.......hmmm....... still thinking about it......... lol
