wrestling ..... to answer your question: I presently have accounts open at 2 different banks with plans to open a few more as I go along. One is a buy bank with 2 branches participating in this project. I have more than 10 dump locations located very conveniently. My second bank has several branches and there are also many Coinstars with their 8% fee. I have plans to reopen 2 bank accounts with 2 totally different banks that I have a previous relatonship wth due to their low fee to open an account. It is a small infrastructure but very doable. Mainly, it is about letting the bank know upfront what they can do to get your business (bank boxes) and then you maintaining your account and being kind to the tellers. As I have found, some will work with you as a regular customer and some only deal with business customers. So don't be afraid to ask questions until you are certain of what they expect too. If they won't order coins then make them a dump bank but spread it around to several branches or make use of Coinstar if you make enough to give up 8%. It is much easier if you live in a larger metropolitan area. Small towns have far fewer banks but many do have grocery stores with Coinstar and as someone else suggested, maybe check on stock for Coinstar.....
Have thought about it too. I could bring a cashier's check from one bank to the other. That will show a legitimate source of my funds since it is from my checking direct deposit.

I just got the ok from my mom to order 5k worth of half dollars! I told her that I was investing without the risk of loss (minus being robbed) and she thought it was a good idea, if not silly). So tomorrow I'm going to my bank with a check and a box of doughnuts for the tellers! I can't wait til Wednesday

Just got skunked on another box of halves. After my "monster" box last week, I thought I might get a few silvers. Anyway, I did get 7 NIFC and a Barack Obama painted half.

agibby5, its funny you just posted that because my post is almost identical. Had my monster box a couple weeks ago. Last week I found 2 or 3 40%ers. This week I got skunked on 4 boxes. People commented that the 303 pieces of silver in 1 box should ward off discouragement and 'keep me going' for awhile. I think its actually been tougher to get skunked since the monster box. You feel the same?

I forgot to mention something in my last post. I've marked coins 1 time since I started doing this. It was a very distinctive mark with a certain colored sharpy. I received those coins this week. My problem is, I took one batch of coins to my buy bank when I first started. I can't remember if those were the ones I marked. If its my coins from the dump bank I'm getting...I need to make a change.

Spoiled on my previous box... 1-90 and 5-40's. Nothing on today's box. A 2004-P that was beautiful, but that's it.

I am going to mark some of my coins this time and plan on depositing all $1000 across three chapters of a separate bank I do my primary business with.
I saw a few coins in boxes 3-4 which were clearly marked by someone else.
In addition, I am going to ask which company does the processing of the halves I am getting.
From reading here, asking the right questions can lead to more productive searching.

jizer, I wish you well on your $5K hunt. I still love to sort other denominations of coins but have put those on hold until my halves project is completed. Silverng, your 43 Walking Liberty is gorgeous! Perhaps we will find some soon.

Does anyone have a good source for 1971-1973 double dies? I would like to find an ONLINE reference versus buying a $40 Cherry Pickers Guide. I have the Cherry Pickers Guide for the dimes, etc. seeing how I have searched a lot of pennies for errors, but I am not sure there are enough variations out there on halves to buy the second version.

Well, I didn't get 303 peices... but what I got was "monster" in terms of a 10+ box skunk streak combined with the fact that I basically never found silver in a box (just started a few months ago). I hoped to find a few silvers or proofs this week, but it was basically a total skunk. That was upsetting. It's in the odds that I'll be skunked for another 10+ boxes based on my past results.... so I don't know why I had hope for this weeks box. So I guess I agree with you that its tougher to keep getting skunked after you struck a bunch of good finds.

BernieZ, your 41 is very beautiful! More inspiration for this week! Halves marathon starts by Thursday(sooner if they arrive on Tues or Wed)! Have rent money in so if the 12 boxes come in Tues then I will get those and get them sorted (3 boxes at a time until all are picked up). Then, starting on the 6th the rest of my project. Hoping those first 12 won't be skunks...lol. I keep telling myself I won't find anything so that when I do it will be that much more exciting (reverse psychology....lol). Thank you for sharing your coin pics with us! A long time ago I used to have about 20 or 30 Franklin halves. Two I stupidly gave to an ex boyfriend. The rest I had to sell because I had some bills that just couldn't wait. Heh, but I guess, since I don't still have to deal with him, maybe it was worth it after all....lol. Anyway, we all have some of those stories probably. Guess I'll just be happy with where I'm at now and look ahead to a very interesting future!
