Look at it from their POV. They're trying to cut costs, and here's a (perhaps non-)customer costing them $5-50 a week by using their resources to pursue a hobby that has nothing to do with the purpose of the bank. It's a simple solution, and you're going to find it happening more all the time.
Well said.

There is no question of "if" it will end, this free ride will end. By now everyone should be expecting it; it should not come as a surprise. Enjoy it while you can, but do not have a cow when it finally happens.

I've had plenty of banks offer to order me halves without me even asking them if they would. I would stop by and ask for loose halves "sorry sir we do not have any but we can order some for you"
Only 1 branch of Wells Fargo has ever told me they wanted a fee so I just politely declined.I have gotten many a box from them without fees at other branches.
The some smaller branches are reluctant to order because of vault space so I just stay away from them, or if they do order for me I always agree to pick up the day they come in and they usually call me. I try to accommodate them in any way I can.

Home run! Asked a teller today if she had any halves, and she sold me a $10 roll with nothing but BU '68 halves in it! For the sake of silver, I'm thinking this method is working out SO much better than buying these boxes. Boxes are still fun, but....

I just got 2 mint wrapped rolls at the bank yesterday. One was 2005 P and one was 2005 D. Nothing great but still a fun find.

Yea, customer rolled coins still rule! Let's see...

I've got 68 40%-halves. 6 came from six box searches in six months. The rest have been handed to me by friendly tellers, including 28 in the last six months.

I have five 90%-halves. Many years ago, I bought two and got two from tellers. Got one from the six boxes.

Pretty good day, but still hasn't topped my very best day... 10+years ago, I asked the teller if she had any Ikes. She didn't, but wanted to know if I'd settle for 9 really old dollars that were the same size. She took the time to convince me they were real money. Very cute effort, while I was standing there looking astounded. Yup, I bought 8 Morgans and a Peace dollar for $9.00!

That is the way to build a story.

As I have mentioned before, I have never searched a box, only customer wrapped rolls.

BernieZ: I have Well's fargo as well. How did you get them to get you boxes? You just told them you roll searched and you asked them to order you some? Did they charge a small fee to order them? I talked to one wells fargo branch and they said they'd charge me. Maybe i'll try another.

Murellington, they didn't charge me. But I have a business account there? so, I think that has something to do with it. Basically, I pushed a little, and they said ok. 2nd box was good from them!

But wait till you guys see my next post and pics....

About a week ago, my friend tellers at my main BOA bank branch said that one of the tellers had a bunch of proofs a lady brought in. She said some of the tellers picked what they wanted, but there was still plenty left. They said her name is "Debbie" and she's not here today, but if you want, come back and buy some.

I kept it in mind, and went back several days later to do some business and see the coins. "Ooh, so sorry, she's not in today!" Oh well.

Went in today to see if my box came in, knowing I won't find silver loose there, because one of the tellers collects, and knows as much or more about it than I do. More power to her!

So, my box didn't come in (they forgot to order/machine wouldn't allow, but my favorite teller said she made sure the teller handling it ordered it today). But..."Debbie" was there and showed me the proofs.

Here's some pics:

$102 worth...I bought them all! Some are badly damaged:

But many are AWESOME!

Here's some of the beauties:

Many, many BU 1990's, like gem uncirculated:

Plus, a couple of rolls of Bicentennials. Actually, my first Bicentennial proof, too!

Debbie took my card, because the seller said she doesn't want to deal with dealers and all, and is just going to bring them in and get cash. She promised to call. The lady said it was her brother's, who passed away.

And I just recently posted that I don't ever find proofs!

A great day
Rest in Peace
