I went to my bank to make a deposit and I asked if they had any half $ rolls. I had just asked yesterday and they didn't have any. But today they had five rolls and I bought them. When I got to the car though, I realized 4 of them were marked "Bisc." I opened up one and sure enough all bicentennials. The other roll was nothing either. So on my way home I stopped at the other branch to cash them in. I asked for more but they didn't have any. Then the lady said she had some loose halves. She poored them out and let me look at them. I picked out a pretty good looking 1963 Franklin and gave her two quarters for it. That's my first silver half from circulation. I'm going to have to start searching halves again.

I got a fed box and two Brinks boxes today.
Both Brinks boxes were skunks, but I ordered two more for next week anyway.
The Fed box gave me a 62Franklin and 3 40%ers
I noticed something in the Brinks boxes that I have noticed before in other boxes, it's a razor mark down the side of every coin, not in line but staggered but as though all of these coins had been searched before by someone cutting the papers with a razor. Not a good sign when your hunting rolls. And I don't mean that someone looked at the specific rolls in these boxes, but that these were dumps that were sent back and re-rolled. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this before.

Well the lady at the credit union called back she said they had a box of $500.00 at the bank they were rolls people brought in so I am thinking well probably searched. But then hat if they are some that people have saved ad need the cash.

1st off when I asked the teller if they had any half's she said oh no we never get any then I asked the manager reminding her f how much I have in there bank if they could order me a fed box anyway when she then calls and says oh we have $500.00 in the bank and the teller said none.

Well I found about 10 I needed for my book nothing special and about $25.00 worth I am keeping just because they are in such shape maybe will need them.

Guess I did not do so bad found six 40%
1969 1ea, 1968 1ea, 1967 4ea for a total of six.

I was surprised that I did the entire box in one afternoon so now I have $470.00 of half's to dump at my other bank I am sure they will love me. Guess I will take in $250.00 tomorrow and the rest Saturday.

May then ask the credit union to get me a fed box Monday and see if they will.

Texas Collector - I had the same problem! The bank I'm employed by would only order $1,000 at a time, but the other bank I have an account at was only to willing to oblige. I should have a $500 early next week with any luck!

I have a new bank to dump mine at, there are about 4 branches conveinient for me between home and work without going out of the way. All locations have coin machines with large capacities although I think the most I've taken at a time was $700.00. Whats really interesting is I've gone there about 4 times now (no account required to use the machines)at different locations, and every time someone (teller or manager as if they're trained to do so) comes out to the machine and stands there with me and says they've never seen so many halves before and ask if any are silver, I just say "I don't think so, I'm not sure" and they proceed to grab and look at older or dirty looking ones as I'm putting them in the machine. Anyway they offered me $20.00 to open an account, I think I might take them up on it, but not just yet.

First 3 halves boxes I have ever searched Box #1 was a fed box it yielded 10 40%'s and 2 1964 jfk's.
Box #2 was again a fed box but was pretty dry 2 40%'s and box #3 I got a nice suprise about 30 rolls through of skunk I end up with a 1954 Benjamin Fraklin. I got a fed box coming from flagstar should be in today.

After searching 2 FED boxes, I found two proofs (S): 1983 and 2006. No silver this time, but hopefully something in this weeks boxes.

Searched 2 more fed boxes over the weekend. Found 13 - 40%, 2 - 1976-S, 1 - 1976 Gold tone coin and 1 - 1974 that is real shiny and does not show any copper plating on the edge. Did they make any 40% or 90% in 1974?

Nope......I don't believe they did.
Does it have an "S" Mint ?......most likely....and then it's probably just a nice Proof coin that was broken out from a 1974 Proof Set by a kid and spent on gas or candy.
I've found these before too (other year though) and MAN ! Do they really shine in that pile/roll don't they ?........

P.S.
Dont forget to look for DDO's for that year of 1974 !....

That 74 half you got is silver plated. I got one about a month ago. People plated them to fool people into thinking they were silver. Scratch the edge and you will the copper

I have a question. Do any of you keep halves from certain dates with lower mintages? Or are even the least minted dates worth anything?

I keep the lower mintage dates of 2002-present. they are worth a bit more then 50c, but not as much as the silver ones in my thinking.

OK, so I guess those 7-8 dates with the lowest mintage numbers aren't worth keeping then. One more: do you check, like with a magnifier, every coin you search, or do you only check dates with known errors/varieties?

And when you return a box, do you fill the box back up with rolled halves and give them the whole box back? Or do you trade in the rolls out of the box, or use a coin-counting machine?

Sorry for all the questions; if I ask for a box, I want to sound like I know what I'm talkin about.
