M0nk, what are of the country are you? I'm on the east coast, and we seem to do allright here. I use 2 - 3 different banks.

Kenscott (and other fellow in NC), expect for the worse in the area. It started to dry up around here across every carrier in December 2011. I had gone through 30+ boxes without any keepers (I don't keep NIFCs) and then couple 40%ers to break the skunk streak. Volume doesn't help either. I stopped counting skunks for a while. I started to think it's not worth my and tellers' efforts to have to deal with dumps. Good Luck!!

Hey all, I'm new to halves searching, but I do have a couple silver half dollars I've found over time at home. And a few bi-centennial ones which I think have no value, but I'm keeping them anyway. :)
I decided to check at the local bank to see if they had any rolls of halves, and they didn't. They said they used to have one roll in the vault for the longest time, but they ended up sending it back about a month ago. Do you always have to order boxes of halves at the bank?

Yes, you order from your bank. The boxes are $500 each. Make sure you know how you are going to get rid of them (dump). I use coin counters but you could also roll them which is more accurate then counters. Bad news is not all banks accept large quanty of rolled coins.

Pungod... I get probably 15 coins per box that look like yours there, I choose to throw them back because I can't find a buyer, and I need the money to keep buying more boxes.

Yes, it depends on finding a buyer. My opinion is that if you can afford to keep them, then keep them. If you would rather use them to get more boxes for more what you feel are more important finds (silver and NIFC), then you should do that. There are no universal rules here.  |

I had a doctor's appointment a few miles away, and decided to hunt in the area. I found a 1 ounce encapsulated APMEX bar at a nearby flea market for $32 plus tax. I was impressed, since most of their booths are way overpriced. I then checked a bank nearby, and saw a nice teller who had given me a silver dime once. She had 3 CWRs, which yielded a '64 and SIX 40 percenters! Unsearched rolls are still out there, guys...  Edited by CPC24
