I found a JFK with two small holes drilled through the center. Never saw it before.

no but I did find one with 2 large holes in it guess dracula got a hold of that one |

I went by my secret "fishing spot" today. It's an area with lots of banks, where I always seem to have good luck. I soon found a teller who had two rolls. She said, "There's no silver in these." I guess she picked through them.  I took them anyway; the last time a teller told me that, she ended up giving me a 40%. Many people, including tellers, overlook them. Apparently, she didn't look hard enough. One of the rolls contained a dozen 40% halves!  Edited by CPC24

Hit 2 boxes tuesday, and 2 skunks. Glad I downgraded my weekly orders. My current skunk streak is 2 boxes. Iv got 4 boxes coming friday, last 2 boxes from this bank yielded 3 silvers, so we will see.
Its summertime and other activities keep me busy, I camp alot, gonna be ordering some out of town boxes around my camping trips, and hope for the best. Hit two small town banks last weekend, landed 17$ worth of skunks.
Gotta unload about 300$ of 83" and newer pennies this week or next, and grab 10 boxes of those for copper hoarding, before that train runs out, iv got about 180$ face copper now.

I have a decent stack of sterling and I am not happy with the falling silver prices.
My concern is that the fall is going counter to the fundamentals of hoarding. I mean, with
the markets the way they are silver and gold should be acting as safety preservation mechanisms
but they are acting like risk-on and risk-off mechanisms. The picture is looking worse in Europe,
new jobs data is lower than expected, and true unemployment is still at a very high rate. People
should be hoarding now but seem not to think gold and silver will have the long term value that
hoarders seem to think it will.
As for me personally, I will likely soon sell my small collection of sterling but not my COINS.
Nope, nosiree, no way do I want to sell my coins.

@Rew,
I have saw a number of drilled halves myself in my last eight boxes. I am in the Western, NC area. Might you be
in this neck of the woods which would also include Eastern, TN and the Piedmont area of SC?
I am only asking to help determine if the holes are a more regional thing or something a bit more common around the country.

One of the reasons that I think silver and gold are bouncing around is that as people lose their jobs and don't have enough to support themselves, they are forced to sell their hoards, flooding the market. A lot of people don't have the money to hoard like they used to. Plus, I don't see coins bouncing around as much as the silver spot, because silver spot and silver coins are different markets, even if they overlap pretty closely in a lot of ways. And remember, until the dollar tanks, the market will be volatile. Once the dollar hits the floor, you'll see silver skyrocket.

bigfred, I assume by your post that you've found a bunch of 74 DDO's. I too find them all the time. However, I've found that they seem to come in batches. 2 or more in a box or none at all. I'm still pulling all of them except for the really beat up 74's. They sell for a premium. I need to get them listed on ebay before their premium goes down further. Also, I've done $500 from both locals this week. My loomis and my brinks bag/box. Skunked on both (except for 4 74 DDO's). I hope I wasn't too early at declaring myself over the hump. Have a brinks (BofA) box coming this afternoon. OO |

Did 5 boxes ($2500) this week. I found a 64' and 2 40%s. This feels like a broken record, but the silver is dry around these parts. I am also starting to see a lot of rollhunter marks.

When regarding 1974 DDOs, are you referring to the 1974-D coins?
I have yet to find one in any of my boxes.
