bishftl, those markings looked familiar. I checked your ebay listings to see where you are located. Spring Valley? Dude I lived the first 20 years of my life there! I'm 23 and I now live in El Cajon but am moving over near SDSU. Had no idea we were in the same town!

Bish, I am looking at your total counts and I'm just in awe... I've done 20 boxes of halves, and I've found 2 silvers total. I gave those up for now. Not worth the time, gas money, energy.

Here is another "special" half dollar that I found: a 1987 and my first one, unless you count the 1987S proof that I have. I am bummed that there is a small yellow streak on the coin, but what do you guys think? Is this a keeper or not?

I'm not sure what the yellow streak is and I have not tried acetone. What does acetone do? I thought you should never clean your coins.

TheDanMan,

Not cleaning is a cardinal rule for older coins, but I do not think it makes too much difference for more modern coins. For instance, I would not clean a Walker but I would not think twice about cleaning a Kennedy.

Acetone is used to remove marks and the like from coins. I learned about it from my local coin shop. It is also used to remove fingernail polish and other things as well. Read the instructions carefully.

I just found an ebay auction where someone is selling 40% Kennedy's for $5.00 a piece, with free shipping. As of this post, the 40% halves should be around $4.24. What are your thoughts on this?

TheDanMan,

I think the price if fair seeing the basic shipping cost will be around .70 or the like. In short, the coins are going for spot with the actual shipping costs built into the costs.

IMO, it is a fair auction.
