JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

I stopped at a small bank for some coins, I hadn't been to that bank in about 10 years, and I don't think many hunters go there. They gave me $181 in halves and one Ike. When she brought them to me she had them in a cloth bag! awesome score right there.. When I opened the first roll I found a 1967! Excitedly, I pulled it out of the stack and admired it. I was about to drop the rest of the coins in the bag when I noticed ANOTHER 40% (it was sort of dirty so it didn't stick out very well) the two were right next to each other in the roll! I ended up with a total of 8, 40% coins. Not too shabby!

Also, there were only 3 marked coins in the whole lot, and the newest coin of all of them was a 2001. I bet they had been in that vault for a long time!

The last box had 4 silver enders and 5 proof enders and must have been part of a customer dump. I am thinking I may have missed out on much more than this. All silver and proofs came from this box.

doing the same order one more time to see if I can't get my hands on the rest of that customer dump. 1 in 20 boxes was a bit of a disappointment but with the total on the last box and the 1923 coming out of the last roll, I have to press on.

makes me want to pull out my retirement funds and search 10K at a time. Actually... you CAN tax free for 60 days.... get this....

You can technically do a one-time "rollover" of your IRA/RothIRA which would enable you to get your hands on the money for 60 days (they send a check directly to you). You then take those funds - grab as many halves, dimes, or whatever, search the heck out of them (recycling the $ for 2 months)... grab all the silver, replace the $ from taking the silver and put it back into another IRA within 60 days with NO TAX, No penalties!

...If your short on liquid funds this is a fabulous way to "borrow" your own money to make a 5K, 10K, 100K vault run!

....also a great way to access funds in an emergency (non-hardship) without realizing any penalties/taxes on your retirement funds.

So I just finished summer school, and my rule to myself is that I don't look during school because that's what will make me real money and finding silver is the icing on the cake. I don't know exactly my box count from before, but I'll start over again and make this three 1, 2, 3.

Box 1: 1964D, 1967, 1968 (almost passed up on it because it is so dirty the edges look like some coins I found that are corroded and green)
Box 2: 1964 (I think its a deep accented one) and a 1965
Box 3: 1968 (and really clean and white, I thought after looking at the rim it was a 64)

So this was a pretty good clean up for being out of the game for about a month. What bothers me even more is that I didn't get a chance to get to two other boxes that are sitting in a different banks vault for me. Seeing as on how these three all hit silver and all were from the same delivery, I have a very good gut feeling that those other 2 will also produce some silver!! Ill post pics later too. Glad to be back.

My credit union has halves that people have cashed in. It is the only way they stock half dollars. Does anyone know how to obtain a $500 brick elsewhere?
