I've had absolutely no luck with customer rolls of 1/2s, or loose in teller's trays but I finally found some silver, FINALLY! First I asked if they had any halves and they said yeah, but not many ($63) so she took them out and $43 of it was in a ziplock bag. As she was counting them out I hear the silver *clink* *clink* and I start to feel my pulse in my neck And she said she has some more rolls in the back (2) and gives them to me. Had a pretty strange week for halve searching. Stopped at one bank last week not expecting much as the head teller has told me she collects halves but figured I'd give it a shot. Definitely picked up an old collection as I scored a bunch of BU coins including a 70-d. Got 52 from this one bank. 70-d is a pretty rare find for me as I've only found one other. Wouldn't you know it, this week I had a free morning and hit a few banks and what turns up but another 70-d in another obvious collection dump! Best part was the teller sorted through $1000 in rolls and gave me $280 in the customer wrapped rolled coins. Seems another fellow coin roll hunter loves to go around my area and dump re-wrapped machine rolled coins. At least I know what to pass on when I'm low on funds. The problem is the tellers are getting a little sick of this fellow coin roll hunter. I wish he would follow the coin roll etiquette and not stink up the area with all these obvious dumps. The tellers know what they are and what this guy is doing...luckily for me I have a great dump bank that will take my dumps by the bag so I usually just clean up the mess he leaves and try and keep the tellers happy. This seems to pay off in other ways with the tellers saving me many "interesting coins". I love it when they call me to come on by and take these pesky old rolls of half dollars off their hands! I picked up 2 boxes yesterday they had NO silver or anything else of interest and almost every coin had been marked with a black marker.
I'm getting 4 more boxes today and 2 more on Thursday. Will post them
later. I did get a 1964D quarter and 2 1964 dimes out of the coin return when I dumped some other coins. So that was neat.

Found a bank today that agreed to ordering halves for me! I have 2 boxes coming Tuesday! Picked up 2 rolls of Log cabins and 4 Ikes today.

Sounds like you worked hard for your silver today. My luck has not been very good lately.
How do you dump such large quantities of halves without agitating the bank tellers?
I have found some coins with a black mark on their face. Is that the mark you are finding on your coins?

I searched a box last night. Found two 40% ('67 & '68D) and two NIFC (2001D & 2003D).

Got a pretty nice box yesterday. 6 40% and 1 90% JFK as well as 2 2005.

I have 2 boxes coming Tuesday to my new bank! However, being the impatient type...I went bank hopping today looking for halves and grabbing up miscellaneous other rolls looking for some of the elusive 09's. Picked up 12 customer wrapped rolls and about 15.00 loose. One bank had 11 rolls in a cigar box (I was hoping for an old hoard). Turned out to be pretty good! All coins were pre 1974 with an occasional Bicentennial. Out of that 11 rolls came (1)1964,
(4)1966, (7)1967, (9)1968D, (9)1969D and a 1972D no FG. I was tickled. I did find one log cabin cent in the 8 rolls of customer wrapped.

The black marks on the coins I had earlier in the week were kind of diagonal, but parallel to the neck line right behind JFK's head.
Out of those 2 boxes 80-90% of the coins were like that, and nothing else good in the box.
As far as dumping the coins, I take them to a bank with a counting machine and dump them. I've taken as many as $1500 at a time. This specific bank is very customer oriented and encourages people to use their coin machines just to get you in the bank. And I just opened an account there.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the gold plated halves with extra dates stamped on them? I've found 3 so far. Do they have any premium value?

I just did 5 boxes from 2 different banks, one box had a 1987D.
One box had a 1964 and 21 40%ers.
The other 3 had ZIP.

yeah, I have probably gotten 80% of my finds from a handful of boxes. The things seem to run hot or cold.
