What island, do they have ferries? that would be tough probably hard to take suit case after suit case of monies on and off the island if you have to fly.

I live on Maui , hawaiian island so all coins come from oahu which is the main island.. only air travel between the islands thought about bringing a few boxes worth to vegas when I went a few months ago although decided against it .. I think I may start putting a sm dot on some of the coins so I can gauge if I am searching my coins .. what I have been doing so far is spending them on gas and food hoping that the clerks keep them and dont end up back at the banks.. (most actually get excited) although someone made a good point on this site that you dont want to remind the masses about half dollars and create competition . so I dont think I am gonna do that anymore

hmmm I have been spending some too, same reason hoping that they take a while to cycle back into the banks, didn't think about other people getting the bug to start searching them. I marked 12 boxes the other day, what I did was use a black marker about 3/4 on an inch wide and made stripes down the sides of the coins, also marked about 5 boxes front and back but the pen started running out. I dropped them in the CU coinstar so it will be interesting to see if they get back to me, and if so how long.

Unless you guys manage to spend like $50k over the course of a year or two, it's not gonna make much of an impact. Well, I'm not sure about the islands, but I would think that it wouldn't have much of an impact.

What kind of averages do you pull with halves living on Maui, mauijay?

i know I figured most people will just keep them thinking wow I havent seen these in forever which is what they usually say , several have said right there I am buying these for myself
with big smiles on there face although the more people they then show the more it seeps out and before you know it some might think hey I wonder if a bank can get me these .. I wouldnt mind so much if I lived in a big city as plenty to go around although we have like 5 banks and it seems everyone know everyone .. I know for sure there are a few other hunters on maui and 1 on oahu who marks his coins with some weird stuff that makes the coins look rainbow like a film over the coin . got a whole box of his dump .. wife is calling time to watch falling skies lol have a great night

Fade I only get 2-3 boxes a month as only one bank will order for me and I dont want them to cut me off although when I was there yesterday they were really nice . so might try to gradually increase.. my 1st bag I got was old , 1st time I ordered came a bag loose of $500 and I found 73 silver out of 500 about 20 were 1964 and about 10 were franklins that was a great bag I was in heaven .. since then I have gotten 4 boxes with 36 between the 4 and last 6 or so boxes only 10 or so , I have also found boxes with gem 1976 and 1971 solid rolls have about 120 of them one box had 16 another 41 another 22 another was full box 50 all solid brillant rolls .

i just recently got a smart phone that takes good pictures of coins so I will post some of the gem rolls , I also found a 1970 and 1976 silver in that 1st bag what was also interesting is that one box that I searched had a walker ender and there was a tiny piece of cardboard taped on it like whoever packaged it was saying hey dont over look this as I have read on here speculation about loomis brinks taking silver although whoever packaged this for sure saw and actually put something on it

dump in 48 pound bags, $1k in halves per bag. I buy them off some website, banksupply.com or something like that.

Hey Fade, I'm loving the bags for instant cash back, its actually pretty ridiculous

I dropped my first four off saturday, my manager said "so how many you need this week" I'm not gonna push it to far, I did add an order for next week, so I'm up to 6 bags, still gonna dump my other 6-8 boxes at my other dump banks.

Are you using the "fort knox" bags from bank supplies? I was gonna order my own bags. She isn't charging me for anything right now.

FTB, I see, I turn over my $1k once, sometimes twice a week.
I order 4 boxes a week and go twice, 2nd time after I search and dump the first 2 boxes.

Do you order boxes from different branches of the same bank or all different banks?

Mauijay, what an awesome score that first one was. Can't wait to see pics.

I found a bank that will sell me their halves even without an account. That's rare here. PNC will not do anything for me without an account. I've been to several branches. Nada.

I have a state bank that is pretty good about it. After reading these posts right now, I am calling them to set up an weekly order of a box a week. I'll pick up on Tuesdays, after finishing my main boxes and cashing in.
