Yesterday, I thought I got lucky. The local Chase branch had just ten halves, but as any good roll hunter knows, small batches generally hold better coins!
Nine of those coins were silver. Four 40%, 2 64s, a 53-D Ben, and 2 Walkers (40 and 43!) That brings my total "out-of-circulation" Walker count to 9, I believe.
Then today came the bonanza! SEVEN ROLLS of nothing but 40%! One hundred forty silver clad halves!
That's obviously my personal best - I don't reasonably see myself ever matching that haul in one day, let alone getting that many over the course of an entire year! They were rolled in modern wrappers, too. I can only assume that in both instances, someone passed away and their heirs found an unrolled pile, grabbed some wrappers from the bank, and cashed them in. I snagged a $2 US Note at the bonanza bank, too, backing up my theory of some ignorant heir cashing them in.

Nice Haul!
I got three 40% rolls myself yesterday, giving me close to seven rolls for the week. Great feeling pulling those, isn't it?
Today was a different story! 127 customer rolls, ZERO silver! A couple of other roll searchers dump banks, I guess.

Congrats to you as well! You (and many other posters, evidently) are having extremely good luck! Glad to hear other people are snagging rolls as well. It's sad that many coin collectors have passed away, and their families are caught unawares of the value of their collections. I suppose what's unfortunate for them is profitable for us.
It's only a matter of time until some fool spends/cashes in a gold coin approximately the size of a golden dollar (I would think a half eagle) and has absolutely no clue of its worth. The same goes for pre-Depression bank notes (gold certificates, National Currency, etc.)
127 rolls, though? That's more than a whole FED box, and totally skunked? I hope you at least found some NIFC coins in there.
When you talk about dump banks, it makes you wonder how many roll hunters really are out there? How much impact do we have on shipping in general to banks and armored-car companies? And have you ever considered writing your initials, or a marking, on the side of the roll to see if you ever get it back? That would be interesting, lol

Went on a road trip yesterday and stopped at about 25 different banks. At one bank, I managaed to pick up 10 rolls. 5 of them were solid 40% and the other 5 were 19 out of 20 40%. All told, I ended up with 200 40% and one with two tiny clips.

Found a 62 Franklin, 1 1964, 4 $40% silver, and a 2007 proof in good shape in a box I searched on Friday. Now I also found about $25 dollars each in 2006 & 2007 halves and about $75 in 2009. Before this box I would get excited anytime I'd find anything newer than 2001 (have only done 5 boxes) as I didn't find them very often but this volume seemed a little strange to me. ANyone else experience something similar with the newer halves?

The most of 1 NIFC date I've found in a box is 6. Oddly enough they were mixed between p & d mints. I grabbed a stack of loose halves from a bank one day and got 7 of a different NIFC date, also mixed mintmarks.

I have found no more then 1 roll in a box. finding 10 of them is crazy.

From the 7 rolls I found, here is the date breakdown:
65 - 7
66 - 9
67 - 48
68D - 52
69D - 24
These proportions also match the numbers of 40% halves I had already found overall from banks:

66 - 14
67 - 35
68D - 41
69D - 28
(I just inventoried my, admittedly meager, stash of 40% circulation finds.) I figured I'd post the numbers and see if they conformed to your finds. They also conform proportionately to mintage figures.
Perhaps I should start paying attention to spot prices. Or, hold onto it and hope for the next incarnation of the Hunt Brothers... :-)

After driving to a different area today to look for customer wrapped rolls (since my bank forgot to order my 2 boxes) I successfully revealed the location of 2 other dump banks! LOL! One of the banks I had been to earlier had told me to come back in twenty minutes because one of the tellers was at lunch and she had some halves.(I almost forgot) So I get to the bank and approach the teller and ask for halves. She tells me she has ONE! Another teller chimes in and said "Oh yeah...we told him to come back". Then this teller says "Oh yeah...I have Special K's money". We joke about the name, seems Kay is on vacation and saves half dollars for a certain customer. So I grab all 19 rolls....9 were junk but 10 were loaded with silver. The breakdown of the silver in those 10 rolls is as follows: 51D(1)______65 (2) 52(1)_______66 (4) 57D(2)______67 (25) 63(1)_______68D (18) 63D(3)______69D (11) 64(16) 64D(1) This is by far my best single day haul yet!  8 Bennies! |

I would rather not divulge where I roll search or dump. I really don't need anymore competition in the area. Sorry But I see you're from Cleveland, Nc and I've never heard of it so you're obviously nowhere near me.

i am about an hour north of charlotte but I stopped in Siler city on my way back from Raliegh and found halfs and silver  and I want to stop in Pittsboro but I normally take the by=pass Edited by yotie

I got two FED boxes and $40 in customer rolled halves from the bank today.
The customer rolled halves had nothing.
The first box was a skunk.
And it took only opening one roll in the second box to come to the realization that the entire second box was nothing but 2000 D's.
I could just cry.
