Oh missed the modern 90%, nice score, I have yet to find one of those. Besides wanting a barber or older, I also have yet to land a 90% ender thats not ken, over 500 boxes, and no ben or walker ender, had a walker today second coin in, for the second time, but no ender.

This is a noobish question, but I'll ask it anyway. I found a silver proof two days ago (1970) and one today (1976). I was told the 1970 is 40%. I see that the 1993 proof found above is 90%. Were different years minted with different silver compositions? Is my 76 40% or 90%? I'm at work or I'd weigh it and figure it out that way. These are my first silver proofs and I found them back to back!

'65-'70 and '76 are 40%. 1992 or 1993, whenever they started the prestige sets, those are 90% dimes, quarters, and halves.

Yea those 1992 and up coins are the keys to a complete kennedy with proofs set.All of them are very low mintage.

So let's talk about the process here...hopefully someone has the knowledge. So I take a full box back to the bank (I put the half dollars back into the same rolls they came in), what happens to them from there? The ones I get come in Brinks boxes. Does the bank send the box I brought in back to Brinks? Once Brinks receives them, what do they do with them? Open all the rolls and dump them into some type of bin? One of the things I am curious about is how likely it is that I am checking the same half dollars each week? I get one box a week from the bank and it is the same bank I take them back too (I turn one in when I get the next one).
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

The first answer is... it depends. Either way, it's not good to dump at your pickup bank, unless you have a very well established connection with a manager. Even then, it's sketchy,especially if you are returning the same coin they sold you.
My experience IN MY REGION is that banks that use brinks recycle their own. If some of their coin is S&S, you probably aren't getting the same coins.

I've taken a few months off due to time constraints. I have done some coins that I have picked up from tellers, nothing good though. I can't wait to get my box today! When I'll have a chance to search is another story LOL.
I asked @ the bank where I've had multiple accounts for about 20yrs & they won't order anything for me, not even pennies. I am tempted to make them a dump location...

Half Hunter, Thanks Man. You've really turned it up on the amount of coin you're searching. It seems to be the trend.
If making extra money were my primary goal, I'd probably do the same. I love the halves but the search just doesn't last long and the variety is pretty limited. I have about $3500 bankroll but $1k is tied up in zinc cents that I haven't found time to dump. But I enjoy looking at cents and nickels, even though it probably doesn't add much to my bottom line.

4 box total today: 16 2 @90%: 1-62D Franklin and 1-64P JFK. 14 @ 40% * 2- DDO'S! a 71D DDO-002 and a 74D DDO-001 Nice to finally hit double figures again plus the DDO'S  Pics below.      |

Gosh - I feel left out over here in the UK. I should go to the local money changers and ask if they have any half dollars! Or get a job there...
Problem is, they always give out crisp new bills so the odds are pretty slim of getting anything good. Just people cashing in the holiday change.

Two brinks boxes: 1st was the best one I've ever had (limited sample size), 2nd was a skunk besides the 86 and 87. 1976s clad proof   1979s clad proof   1986d   1987s clad proof   1988s clad proof   1952 Ben, 1952d X2 Ben, 1968  Never had a box produce more 90% than 40% |

I just went through my two weekly boxes and had my best box ever in the first one. First roll I cracked open had a 40% silver in it and they kept coming. Most of them of 67s. I found 35 - 40% total and even found my first 1976 silver half. I also found 2 - 90% halves. I also had 4 NIFC, a proof 1995 and a real nice 1978 D that I decided to keep since it looked so good. The second box, the first roll I opened up there was another 40%er and I was hoping here we go again, but it didn't happen, but did find one other real nice 68 D in there. There was also 11 - 2007 D halves in that box. I also got my 1998 bullion american silver eagle today, which almost completes my ASE set, only missing the 1995 W now, not sure I will ever own that coin. |

What does the brinks boxes look like?
Most of the boxes I get have the Loomis logo on the rolls.
That goes for pennies, nickles & halves.
