QUESTION - Is the the runaround from my bank?

As I stated in an earlier post, the head teller called me yesterday and told me the halves did not show. This was nice of her, and I did appreciate it. She also said the driver told her the coins should be on the truck late today.

So, I called and asked if they had arrived and she said they had not. She said they should deliver tomorrow.

Now, I thought change orders were only delivered once a week to most banks. Is this the case is there a legitimate chance they could be delivered on the last three days of the week?

Someone more familiar with the ordering practice will likely know the answer. Personally, I do not know.

My main pickup bank gets shipments on Mondays and Thursdays.

I have had them forget a few times and have had them tell me they didn't need any change so they did not order on one of the 2 days but never missed 2 shipments in one week.

Ken, I don't think you're getting run-around, I'm sure they'll show up... just a matter of when. The deliveries that are missed are made up whenever they have time, sometimes it takes a day or two.

I wish I had time to check for die varieties. :(

FadeToBlack,

It is a time consuming process to put it mildly. Searching for silver alone is much quicker and allows a quicker turnaround of invested monies. Searching for errors takes much longer and thus tends to tie up your capital for a bit longer period.

Seeing how I am still currently unemployed, time is to my advantage at this point. I just wish I would find more error coins.

If you are going mainly for the quicker money, silver searching alone is probably the best venue. Yet, if one does have the time, error hunting is really a great thing to undertake as part of the hobby.

@kenscott:

Thanks!

The 72P DDO is a much harder find than the more popular 74D, so when I found 3 yesterday I was totally in shock to say the least!

Good Luck!
You will find a DDO / DDR, they are out there, it's just a matter of time.

As far as time consuming, it does take a little longer, but it's worth it to me.

I only concentrate on a few dates etc- (From the 2012- Cherrypickers Guide- 5th Ed, Vol II.)

I open 5 rolls at a time, pull any silver, then separate any 71D,72P,73D,74D and 77D into indiv stacks and check the Motto for any doubling with my 5X Bausch & Lomb Mag.

The 72D and 82P I just flip over to check for the missing FG Init.

All I can say to everyone that's in it just for the Silver is a great big "THANKS!"

All the better the chances of my finding valuable DDO / DDR'S etc that you guys/gals threw back into the mix!

Chuckster,
Those are amazing! Congrats. And your pictures could be used to replace a bunch of the DDO "Example" pic's found on the net. Again, amazing. You've inspired me to start looking for the 72p DDO again.

Btw, I have a bunch of the 74D DDO. If you want to trade one of the 72 DDO's for reference, I'd be down for it. Just message me.

I'm not a frequent half roll hunter, I just check with the tellers at the bank in Walmart once in a while to see if they have any halves in their drawer. Today during lunch break I stopped at Wallyworld to pick up a few things and decided to check with the tellers to see if they had any halves in their cash drawers. One girl had one half and I said no thank you anyways. As I was turning away one of the tellers walked up and said I have some, reached under his drawer and pulled a box out. Three customer wrapped rolls were inside...Well like everyone I had grand illusions of some old lady rolling her Franklin halves and depositing them. Not the case, but....inside the first roll were three silvers, second roll one and third roll one. I scored a 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969...

Okay all, have something different this week. The boxes finally arrived on Friday versus Wednesday. No problem here. FadeToBlack, you were correct.

The boxes are the same, flat ones with the yellow writing. Yet the rolls are not S&S like the boxes to date have been. They are generic black and white with alternating stripes around both ends and the words "$10 Halves" alternating in a diagonal patten across the center of the halves. So, not sure where these originate from. Will try to update on my findings later.

Ks, sounds like you may have tapped into a new pallet of halves from the same supplier. That would explain the delay in delivery.

12 boxes today, 22 90%, 17 40%. Best day in a while.

FTB,

Well, if so, I sure hope the first two boxes are not indicative of the remainder of the pallet. In short, both boxes are silver skunks and I do not see any edges indicating proofs. So, once again, hope some errors show up. May find the first doubled die or the like. Will update later.

Not really happy about these two so far.

3 boxes today. 2 NIFC and the rest is no bueno. Skunk streak up to $5500. I have 2 more boxes I will wait til tomorrow as I am bummed at out the moment.

I have to work tomorrow (which I was told last night) so I had to unload 2K in dump and make it to my Saturday pickup bank tonight to pick up 4 boxes all within 1 hour during rush hour in major metro traffic.

This reminds me of an episode of 24 with the countdown ticking.

I made it to the dump bank by 5:12. It took me 5 minutes to park my truck, grab my bags, drag them into the bank, wait in line, heft them onto the counter, have the teller transfer them to her chair to wheel to the counting room. I heard the coins start clinging in the machine and 10 seconds later it stopped. Then I heard faint one by and clanging. I can only assume that the bag came off of the machine and there are $500 worth of halves from the last dumper sitting on the base of the machine.

20 minutes later I have my $2K in cash to pick up my 4 boxes 5 miles away. It takes 3 minutes for the 2 cars in front of me and myself to make it across cross traffic and into oncoming traffic on the main thourofare.

I think for a minute to jump onto the interstate but traffic is at a standstill which is odd for a holiday as traffic into work this morning was moderate at best VS. bumper to bumper.

Traffic at the main diagonal intersection is backed up and the idiot in front of me can't figure out how to make it around the car in front of us to make the arrow. After he finally figures it out I decide to gun it on a yellow in front a cop as the street is 10 block from the station.

I have to stop in a no parking zone for 30 seconds to stop at the library along the way to turn in some DVD's.

I have 12 minutes to make it to my pickup bank. With 6 minutes to spare before closing I hook up with the head teller and joke around for a minute about my adventure and make it out with the first 2 boxes. On the way out on my second trip she asks why I missed last week. I had to tell her about last Fridays dump adventure so I could get enough cash ready for my father to pickup for me only to find out he forgot to go there when I stopped by after work last Saturday.

With the horrible search results the last 3 months I have had to go with the guaranteed hours the last 5 Saturdays vs. the could be the motherload roll hunting Saturday score.
