I finally was able to go through entire box of half dollars (even though it took four trips and two weeks)
My finds: 2 40%ers, a 1971-D DDO, and half a dozen various no/no F FGs. Not bad for a first box. I plan to find a LOT more silver by the time I finish CRHing!

P.S.- Has anyone else noticed the damage that end crimpers have been wreaking on the end coins? It doesn't just nick them, it STAMPS them.

Make sure your missing F and FG coins past the test of extreme close views with a loupe. If there is even the slightest ghost image of an FG, the FG has just became worn and is not actually missing.

I have only found two, true NO FG coins.

Been neglecting reporting things as of recent. Finally got things totalled:
Boxes 91-94 3/26/19
1968-D - 1 83 No FG - 1 74-D DDO 72-S - proof 81-S - proof 92-S - proof 93-S - proof 1 Magician's coin NIFC 2P...............1 3P...............1 3D...............2 4D...............1 5P...............32 5D...............36 6D...............1 7P...............2 8D...............1 9P...............3 9D...............1 11D..............1 Totals: year.........Today's Totals........Running Total for 94 boxes 72P............323.........................0/5627 DDO's found 72D.............82.........................4/1600 No FGs found 73D.............29........................2/698 DDOs found 74D.............45.........................3/725 DDOs found 82P..............14........................0/238 No FGs found 83P.............103........................6/1302 No FGs found 71D.............106........................3/873 DDO's found - 30 boxes 77D..............10.........................0/58 DDOs found - 24 boxes

The funny thing about the Magician's coin is that it was marked "counterfeit" with a green marker. I am glad the previous searcher had no concept what it was. I have been wanting to find one of these.

I finished the 2 boxes I had left from yesterday.

2 NIFC, 1 1974D DDO, and no silver again.

This new year has been brutal.

I went through my first sealed box over the weekend. No silver, but I did find my first proof from CRH, along with several NIFC.

My first proof, 1983-S:

JFK-Half-Dollar-Roll-Hunters:-Silver,-Proofs-And-Other-Finds

It's not in too bad of condition considering it was found in circulation.

I should be picking up at least a box or two this week. Hopefully all goes well and I can start to crank up production. With the score I had on only my second time looking, even my wife is getting into CRH. I just hope we can start finding more to keep her interested. We should be welcoming our first kiddo here within the next few weeks, so that might slow us back down for a bit though.

Man, you guys are finding some cool stuff in your hunts! I find 40% here and there usually but nothing really special.

I would be happy with more 40%

After going through quite a few halves this last year, and seeing in prior posts that many people have been finding magicians' coins, I remembered an old trick I used to use.

@tpmjr2004 - nice find on the proof. These proof clads are the only coins I will clean. I figure that they are only worth .50 so there is no way I can harm them. So when I get one of these I like to use MS70 on them to see if I can give them a semblance of their original look. I am even thinking of trying to polish them when they are really bad.

Congratulations, everyone, on your great finds! Especially the doubled dies and the first proof!

I wanna respond to the silver/varieties conversation these last few pages.

I've been learning from you all about searching and boxes and silver, and always love the silver. I have to say, though, that varieties are FAR more valuable. I found that 1988 rotated die half, posted some pages ago, and we sent it off to NGC for grading. It got an MS67, a very good rating, which I am told is rare for a 1988, with a rotated die.

I was told that the value is in the $400+ range depending on the buyers' moods.

That's WAY better than any silver I find on normal basis.

So, I do check my coins even more carefully for errors now! It's much more difficult, but much more profitable, although making money's not my main goal.

Went on a bank run at lunch.

Stopped at the dump bank. The guy in front of me was dumping a bunch of change in a canvas bank bag. As the other teller was dumping it in the machine she was picking pieces of candy out of the coins.

Great.

Just what I need as on a good day I barely make it back in time. The guy said he runs a vending business. Good for him. That is no excuse for candy in the coins.

Now it is my turn. The half bag fills up at $700. They change the bag and fire the machine up again. I had a few (maybe $5 in cents and $50 in nickels) and the nickel bag pops. They go to change the bag and the sensor won't reset.

Great.

5 minutes into them messing with the machine I am late. This in only the 2nd time I killed a coin counter and the first one had the same problem. The last time they dug my coins out of the machine and give me the cash for what they counted. I asked them for my money and they said they didn't know how much was in there since the screen only said bag full and wouldn't display the balance.

I sure hope I don't have to escalate this tomorrow and get nasty (especially after todays posts about being nice to bank tellers which I try my best to do)

So I couldn't get my 6 boxes and my rotation is now off.

I had to work til 6 so that only leave me 1 bank to dump the rest of what I had. Unfortunately I have been there more than I try to rotate in the last 5 weeks since I have had to work the last 5 Saturdays in a row. There is only 1 teller, a bunch of people trying to pull check scams and other stuff as this branch is not in the finest of areas. 15 minutes later the teller says the balance was $777.62. What are the odds. I almost hit the slot machine big bucks payout without trying.

I stopped by the grocery store since my day was already wrecked and bought 2 lottery tickets. The bank in the store only had 1 Bicentennial half and 7 common dollar coins.

There is still the $3.8 million Mega Bucks jackpot on Wednesday. Just thin how many halve that would be? I bet I could finally get back to that old pallet of halve collecting dust in the corner of the vault since 1965.

E-Bay to sell DDOs and no FGs. This being said, it will cost you about 12% of your final sale price when seller's fees and PayPal fees are added into the equation.

BTW, just finishing up checking my last two boxes for errors and the like. Did find one 2007-P in decent shape. Short of that, the last four boxes I have gotten from PNC have been some really crappy boxes. Hope things turn around.
