I recall reading here that someone uses a computerized microscope to search for doubled dies and the like. Can that person please let me know which model, or models, I should be looking into?

In addition to searching coins, I am starting to deal in small jewelry pieces and sometimes marks on them are minute. Thus, I feel that purchase of such a device is now really justifiable for more than just one hobby.

I appreciate it.

I'm new to coin roll hunting and I thought I'd ask my question in this thread since it pertains to Kennedy halves. I've just recently been hitting up the bank for their halves, but the last few times I've asked, they don't seem to have rolls of them.. they just have a few in their tray. Do banks usually carry rolls of halves very often? Also curious to know how much a box of halves are and if all banks have them?

Not in LA (Los Angeles or Louisiana )

I'm in WI.

If you are in either LA maybe this is further evidence in my Fed recalling halves to steal our silver and distributing the rejects to other regions or zones.

@Gruver

Most banks don't stock half dollar boxes or rolls as business customers don't need them for day to day transactions. If you have a good working relationship with your bank they will usually order boxes for you. Some banks charge per box, some don't. If you are new to the game and your bank is willing to order boxes for you start out slow, maybe a box a week or every other week. If you strike it rich share the wealth with the teller in the form of donuts or others do chocolates. If I get skunked 30 boxes in a row it's not the banks fault and I still hook them up.

@ jack jeckel

Thanks for the reply. That really clears things up a lot. Hopefully I'll be posting some nice finds in here in the future.

I'm still on a really good run. It's not the most valuable silver I've been on but by far the most consistent. 2 weeks ago, 3 out of 6 boxes had silver, including a 50+ 40% box. My $1k bag had silver. Last week, all 6 boxes, a partial box, and my $1k bag had silver. I've never had silver so consistent before. I don't know how long it will last but I'm enjoying the ride.

I think the sharp dip happening in silver prices may send some more 40% half dollars into circulation.

6 boxes today.

3 40%ers, 1 1964, 1 proof ender, a few NIFC, 2 1982 no FG with polished off serif, 1 1982 no F, and 2 mulched up halves.

Also got my second guitar pick and a blue painted half (usually they are red or black or gold painted) I also found a lightweight half. It had a different ring to it (not the thud of magicians coins) and most of the ones in the past with a different ring all came up at 11.2g but this one is light at 10.6g. I also have one that is 11.9g somewhere.
