Electronic money is great until the power goes out, then what do you use? Going to be very hard to go cashless.

Credit card companies need to END the cash-back/rewards Ponzi scheme. It's nothing but an illusion. All places that accept credit cards increase the price of their goods and services to account for the back-end card fees. The card companies simply funnel a fraction of that back to the consumer. In essence, you are PAYING YOURSELF, and you basically LOSE on the whole deal.

Thad, might be true but regardless, if I go to a store and buy anything, it costs me the same with cash or a credit card. Why use cash? Get nothing back if using cash.

I've never been to a coin show where dealers took plastic. With that being said, I've haven't attended the ANA, FUN, or Baltimore shows.

At many of the coin shows I go to most dealers not only take credit cards but personal checks too. I suspect they think coin collectors are just honest.

I was in line at a Walmart when the power did go out. They had to close the store. Not only did the cash registers stop, but they had to force the doors open to let the people out.
Another time at Walmart, and in line to check out, the computers all went down. They said you could wait or just leave. Since I was half checked out, I waited. Computers went back on line and the cashier started my check out all over but at the half way spot. I didn't notice till I got home that I was charged for only half.
As to the usage of cash. My Son and many other business people love credit cards. Helps them keep track of everything.

Again, not everyone even has a bank account. 20% of American adults don't have one. Unless the goverment mandates everyone have a bank account or if they mandate banks to open accounts for people who have had chargeoffs, it would be literally imposible to get rid of cash.

Who is shopping when the power goes out? Seriously. If the power goes out, buying stuff is never on my mind. If it is, I can wait.

Oh, if you are talking about a Revolution type power outage, do you really think greenbacks would work.

(In case you missed it, they used diamonds)

Would that be something like health care? If you don't have enough money for a bank account, the government fines you. And takes your money.

That is when I leave.

Something like that is temporary, we cope with it, but no reason to say electronic payments are inferior to cash. In my opinion, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Your mileage may vary.

I think cash will eventually fade away into obsolescence, but I can't see it happening anytime soon. I still use cash myself for small purchases such as candy bars, and of course coins are required for the vending machines in our break room. I have seen some vending machines in stores that are set up to take credit cards but they never seem to be in working order. Frankly, I hope cash doesn't go completely away, at least in my lifetime. After all, if I can't pay cash for a small purchase, how can I get change back to go through and look for rare dates? That'd be a bummer.

Exactly.

Look back through history at all the things that were eventually replaced by other things. Many of those contemporaries probably said "never" as well.

Then too there are some real bad problems with credit and debit cards. At least for now. Look at how many people have had their money stolen via hackers. Wrong charges on your cards. Machines that don't take them. Overcharges on your accounts. Lost or stolen cards. Massive interest rates on payments.
And worse of all, no change to look through.

Does not apply to debit cards.

I have a certain fondness for them because I was born during the Eisenhower administration, and as far as I'm concerned he was the last true hero our country has produced, possibly excepting his successor in the White House. Hopefully not the final one.

But with their huge fields and plain devices, Ikes are extremely difficult to find with truly outstanding eye appeal and the TPG's (to my mind) consistently grade them 2 numbers high. I would need them in true Superb Gem and they may be the most difficult issue of the last century to find that way.
