Curious what causes this type of dip in a coin.

I assume it was like this before being punched & that irregular dips like this could cause issues with the die?

Does this give it any extra value?

What is it called?

Note how the devices on LIBERTY are showing the Die Deterioration on the left side of some devices? That is a sure sign of Die Deterioration. (die wearing in that direction) Same thing is going on with the date devices on the right side of some of the devices. No premium for this. Just an event the die is going through when this coin was struck.

Could a die subsidence follow the contour of a device without affecting it? Seems a reasonable possibility since the device is a negative.
