Quote: Do they have no clue what their coins are worth? Correct. No more complex than that.

If you get a roll of halves from the bank, probably at least 20% will be 1971s.

You guys/gals are correct but I would bet there will be a bidder.

Of course. Sellers have no monopoly on cluelessness.

Right, my bank will easily order me a roll of halves. If I can sell them as a BIN of $40, I would definitely do it.

That's the problem since ebay did away with their insertion fees. It used to cost you 35¢ to list an item. If an item didn't sell because it was way overpriced a seller would usually at least lower the price when they relisted it. Now that there is no fee (or consequence) for listing junk ebay is now flooded with overpriced garbage that is relisted over and over every week and it just clogs up the searches.

Ever go to a used car lot. They ask all kinds of money for junk and sometimes get it. Same with coins. Worth a try.

You could probably sell a common date Indian Head cent or Mercury dime to somebody who's never seen one for ten, fifteen, maybe 20 bucks...but would you sleep well at night doing it? This ebay seller seems to just be ignorant of what he has, but as legitimate coin collectors and numismatists I don't think we should ever have the attitude of trying to fleece somebody on a coin purchase because its "worth a try".

The same thing happens with English coins - I've seen some people listing common 2 pence pieces dating from 1971-81 because they've read reports that 2p coins with 'NEW PENCE' rather than 'TWO PENCE' are rare (there is a rare mule but it's a 1983 coin only found in mint sets).

I could, but I don't seen to have much of a conscience. Fortunately I have a strong sense of ethics.

I just got 3 rolls of mixed Kennedys for face from the bank. I better put them on for $100 plus shipping. Give a deal to someone. But I would feel guilty
