I'm puzzled , seller mentions TPG but it's not slabbed. coin looks almost to good to be real. yet mintmark location looks ok. If this 14-d is genuine it could fetch thousands of dollars. the photo that I'm looking at reveals a virtually flawless coin. why the mention of coin being details.

Yeah.. I agree coin looks almost too good to be true but, if real it's a nice one. The mint mark looks o.k. to me too but, I don't know who graded it 'smooth surfaces' unlees the now owner has had it removed from the holder?

Stick with buying a slabbed coin, too many fakes, cleaned and altered coins on the market IMO. It looks like this coin was rejected by a TPG, probably due to a whizzing. It looks beautiful in the pictures but it's one of those cases where it's likely "too good to be true". I suspect the damage is much more obvious in hand. Based on what I see, this coin would be 65-66RB details but with no cartwheel luster (like it would have if original).

At least it's genuine. Just depends how much you want to pay for the "details."

Quote:I'm puzzled , seller mentions TPG but it's not slabbed. He's admitting that he cracked it from a Details slab. I'll give him that much. Frankly, if he admits that fact plainly, says he disagrees, and provides good images, I'll give that practice a moral pass. He *almost* reaches that standard, sufficient that I'm not going to call his morality into question (much), excepting the fact that he didn't mention whether it was adjudicated AU or Mint State. That's a critical omission relevant to my opinion of the seller. But you gotta look at this one with the eyes of an expert to evaluate it properly, and my gut tells me the TPG was correct. The trouble here is that AU Details is $700+ and this is a "good" Details coin and a classic slider. Not this one, Drew. Too much left to chance, and your reasonable bid will get blown away in any event. Wouldn't be surprised if it hammers north of $1000.

It's at $710.00 with 5 days to go ...watch this one go well over $1000.

Way too many questions with this one in my opinion. It is worth thousands if it were original, but something was done to it - not sure what exactly, but as others mentioned, the luster doesn't look right for the level of detail and coloring of this coin. At some price it is still a good buy, but I have no idea what that price would really be. Put it on watch to see where it ends.

It appears genuine in the AU+ details range. Luster has been subdued substantially by a dipping or whiz. It's ebay..expect this to hammer north of a grand.

Alright. My ball park for a VF coin is obviously going to be under 1000$. But what would a decent price be to pay for a RAW and genuine VF-XF 1914 D, problem free coin to the point where I'm getting a good deal and not paying top dollar
