I never realized it, but there are 2 different new effigy toonies...one with the W mint mark from sets and the other one with no mint mark business strikes. Then there is the old effigy toonie. I just bought the no mint marked new effigy toonie on ebay and it seems to be rare as only ONE seller had them in my searches. I could NOT pass it up. Don't know if I got a good price but considering it was the only one listed....

Interesting, wonder why that would be? I find the Coins and Canada - Price Guide and Values - site extremely helpful in identifying all the various varieties and to give me an approximate idea of associated prices. If you've never referred to it, perhaps you'll find it helpful as well. As far as Toonies, going from memory the only variance on that site that I noticed are 2 different types for 1997 - polar bear is either glossy or frosted, depending on whether it was minted in Ottawa or Winnipeg (neither type mint letters, no other difference).

Have fun working on your Toonie collection!

I'll have to check that site out wildflowerAB. And thedollarman, I paid $17 USD and it had free shipping but I figured that was included into the price.

Wow! That seems a little steep. I don't see why you don't make connections with canadian ccf members. You'll get fair prices.

Force: I can't speak for everyone on here but I think there would be plenty of people on here that would be willing to help you with your collection and give a fair price..

I know for a fact I have boxes and boxes of coins... (course I'm a hoarder) and look forward to the days when I can settle in and start going through some of 'em... but I know that if you say made a post inquiring about a certain coin and if others had it... you'd get somebody who might be willing to help/sell/trade with you.. there's a great thread of buy/sell/trades... I've only traded with two people here so far... and have had a great experience with it!

I believe all the coins from that year come with both old and new effigy. The penny has 4 major varieties with the combinations of old and new effigies and P & no P for steel & zinc. Plus the WP mint marked BU coin of course. I believe this is the only year they did the combination WP mint mark.
