Yes, the RCM has hit a new low with these coins. There is no Canadian link, connection, or history, with these looney tunes coins.

At least with the superman coins, there was a Canadian connection.

Jack Warner
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jack Leonard "J. L." Warner (August 2, 1892 - September 9, 1978), born Jacob Warner in London, Ontario, was a Canadian-born American film executive who was the president and driving force behind the Warner Bros. Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Warner's career spanned some forty-five years, its duration surpassing that of any other of the seminal Hollywood studio moguls.

Just a quick thought on Looney Tunes NCLTs. They will drop in value undoubtedly but if they are made of silver or gold, someday in the future, they will recover in value. Thirty years from now when I am gone, silver could be $100 per oz. and gold $5000 per oz. It may be a poor rate of return but it is better than my chequing account.

If you enjoy the designs, who cares about the value.

@jw collectibles: Interesting history from Wikipedia. I grew up in London, Ontario and never knew that piece of history. That was never celebrated or even talked about in the local public schools.

Too bad we had to learn that from Wikipedia. The Mint should have taken advantage of this little known history. Instead, the RCM looney tunes booklet says, "Beloved by generations of Canadians, the animated antics of looney tunes have had a considerable impact on modern culture in Canada as much as they have abroad: to some, the slapstick-filled shorts became a gateway to a deep appreciation of the comedy genre; to others, they inspired a career in the arts and in Canada world class animation industry".

That translates to me... No Candian link whatsoever, but just extra merchandise for the Mint to profit from.

Can't wait for the sale of the New Zealand Mint via RCM, the Cinderella silver and gold coins by Disney! NOT!

For the record...

Jack Warner's link to Canada is tenuous at best. Yes, he was born in London, Ontario, but he was born into a family that had moved from Poland to the United States and then to Canada for a few short years before returning to the US. The family moved to the US when Jack was a very young child - he grew up in Youngstown, Ohio not Canada.

As he left Canada at such a young age, there is no tangible link to Warner Bros. Studios or the Looney Tunes characters and Jack's time in Canada.

Creating a Canada-Looney Tunes link via Jack Warner was one of the RCM's most ambitious "stretches" in order to create a coin program with some sort of tie-in to Canadian history. Personally, I don't see it.

Who doesn't love Blacque Jacque Shellacque? I'm sure many Americans think he is what a French Canadian must be like.
But since we mentioned him, his voice over is actually a Canadian, Maurice LaMarche.
http://looneytunes.wikia.com/wiki/C...ice_LaMarche

Lets not forget, we use a coin everyday nicknamed the "Looney".
"The Canadian Aureate $1 coin, so named because of the Common Loon engraved on the reverse side (not, as sometimes reported, because of the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse).
The use of the word "Looney" to refer to the dollar coin is quite prevalent in Canada."

@Northern, That is too funny . I guess being a wanted man makes him ineligible to have his own coin.

There are 2 listings on ebay, for Gold LT, that catch attention now:

One with CAD $966 current bid and 4hrs to go, the second with CAD $967 BIN.
Which one will choose the next bidder / buyer?

The best will be, just to wait couple of months, when Superman coins will make us forget about LT at all...
And the new Superman flagship..gold? platinum? gold with niobium?...this will be the hit.

personally if they had a woody woodpecker RCM coin I might have been more interested....what is more Canadian than a daft woodpecker? even today I had to chase one away from my vehicle where it was pecking at itself in my sideview mirror!..woody woodpecker was associated in a tenuous way with Warner Bros and was created by the Bugs Bunny artist therefore the RCM should have put him on their roster..in not doing this the RCM is leaving itself open to favoritism leaving out Donald Duck is also a grievous error as Donald is a very Canadian first name.........and speaking of Bugs Bunny ..did you know that a Canadian influenced based rabbit is actually the originator of the popular modern greeting whatsupp? who would have thought?..

I was the first person to point out the Jack Warner connection on the locked Looney Tunes thread.

However, the RCM makes no mention of the Jack Warner connection in its Looney Tunes pamphlet.

The only reference to the Canadian angle is this:

"Beloved by generations of Canadians, the animated antics of Looney Tunes have a considerable impact on modern culture in Canada as much as they have abroad: to some, the slapstick-filled shorts became a gateway to a deep appreciation of the comedy genre: to others, they inspired a career in the arts and in Canada's world class animation industry."

Contrast that with the Superman release where the RCM directly referenced Joe Shuster as a Toronto born artist. Not only that but they said Joe used to work at the Toronto Star as a young man which gave him the inspiration for the Daily Planet. They even said Joe based Perry White on his boss.

The only real connection between the RCM and Looney Tunes is the fact that Warner Brothers own the rights to both Superman (through DC Comics) and Looney Tunes. The RCM must have obtained the rights to Warner Brother products so they can issue such coins. So don't be surprised if we see a Batman coin soon since Warner owns DC Comics too.

the RCM purposely avoided mentioning the facts of Warners family connection to Canada....why would they omit that?..ask their lawyers. The U.S. mint must have turned Warners down.......Im sure the coins will do well and I think the Gold coin will do very well in the secondary market..The RCM knows a good sentimental angle when it finds one and the baby boomers grew up on these characters so I would expect them to sell out pretty fast......Personally I'm not that interested but many will be for sure......

Starting tomorrow will observe the real situation for gold coin.

Till now, not everyone were aware, so the coin resells below CAD 1000 - how people call to this - "dude" or "flop"?

Yesterdays listing completed with CAD 979, while BIN 967 remained un-touched.
