For searching cents, what do you do, just go to the bank and ask for a BOX or what?

Pretty much thats what I do ,,or for any loose rolls if they don't have a full box ,,
I also always glance in the little trays they have by the windows ,,I have picked up several silver coins that way .

You could ask for a box, but you may get a solid box of new cents- unless that's what you want. If you go to a regular teller , just ask for some rolls, they usually have a few. If you go to the commercial account teller they might be able to get you a box, or more rolls than a regular teller would have in the drawer. I started this way, at first just take what they give you whether they are how you want them or not (solid new dates or customer rolls) After you establish a relationship with them you might be able to get about anything you want. I can get most anything I want now as long as I ask in advance for stuff like halves, and she holds a few State Quarter rolls for me when they go fast. They might have to order extra boxes of cents for you since they only order what the bank would normally use for their business customers, and they might not get alot of customer rolls. Always be kind, courteous, and be a customer of the bank you want these things from. Many banks will not deal with you for anything if you do not hold an account there. Good luck ! Oh yea...return the rolls to a different bank !

Right Metalman- I forgot about looking at the change tray. At my bank they keep them sort of half hidden to the side of their little desk area , so at first I could not get a good look at it without looking like I was gonna rob the place, now she pulls it right to me when I come in. Believe it or not , the commercial teller at my bank actually saved silver for me ! And he knew exactly what it was worth- I am sad he retired !! The girl that does it now is great, but I have yet to get any silver from her .

For cents, when they ask you how you'd like your change, I just say, "if it's not a problem, could I get 1 $25 box of pennies". Sometimes they're having a bad day and sometimes they're not. If your nice to them, then they'll be nice to.

You can ask for a full box of $25 of cents and if they don't have them, take what they have. If they are all BU rolls, don't refuse them- you could sell them for profit on ebay, which is what I did recently. Also, the tellers do usually go to some effort to get the rolls (I know it's their job and all, but still, being courteous is important). Some tellers will ask you what do you need that much for. And about half the tellers will ask you if you have an account. Of those that ask whether you have an account may 10% of them will ask for your account number. Strange, but this means you could play the odds and go to a bank where you don't have an account and probably will still be able to walk out with rolls. Establishing a good rapport with a teller or tellers is important. I now have one teller who will give me a call when large amounts of halves come in, as she knows I always want halves. Change tray: most branches I go to no longer keep them nearby. Most of them have it underneath with their currency. I used to do a quick scan of the coins to look for silver, but now it's too hard. I don't want to be taken out in handcuffs...

I do not have a relationship with any of my tellers. When I walk in, they normally know what I'm there for though. I did however talk with the lady that orders the coins each weeks. I told her i'd like a box of pennys every friday. She did not have a problem ordering an extra for me. I'd just talk with the lady that orders them, tell her your intentions and she will not have a problem with it.

I guess I am more fortunate than others. I go to "my bank(of America), and ask for a box of this or that, and have never had any problem getting 1, or four boxes of cents. The first time , I was a bit surprised at the weight, but in the merchants room, where the vault teller(s) begin their training, they are usually very friendly. "My little blond teller" saves all the halves that come in, and when I stop by for a check, she says I have only a few, or I have several rolls for you. She orders the half dollar s at two boxes at a time. I pick up one and go thru it, and when I turn it in, I replace what ever it is short from my account, and get the other box. Many times the teller is busy, and can't trip the door lock, and then one of the ass't mgrs comes over and opens the door for me. They are priarily for my roll set(s) "P", and "D". When I wnt in for the two boxes for the project, One of the tellers said he had a bunch of old rolls, so I got two boxes, and 15 misc rolls. There wasn't anything of note in the other rolls. I spend about 12-14 hoursd adat on my coins, just sorting for rolls, and a few for varieties. Then there is the making of boxes to store the flips in. During the project search, my two sisters, and brother brought 8 boxes of cents from AZ, for my birthday. I still haven't finished going thru thrm! I know there is a full BU box of 2007-D. Another box has 41 rolls of 2007-D, and the rest a mix of mostly60's-90s, with a few 2000-2007. However you play it, it is fun! It doesn'y make any difference if you are 8, or 80. Dick
