This is odd as it looks like something stuck on the coin but it is actually like a fleck of material that was stamped into the pattern during the process.

Do I have something worth keeping?

Hello and welcome to the forum MountianXBGL

what your seeing there is the result of a small die chip ,, a little piece of the die chipped away and when it struck the coin that void filled with metal .

They are a very common thing and carry no premium value ,,but they are neat to look at ,,I have a pretty good sized collection of them in various places and sizes and on all different denoms ,, they will never be worth anything but I still like them .

Thanks Metalman.

I thought it was a die chip. In fact, I labeled the pics when I published them to the net as "diechip" but wasn't sure and surely had no clue on value.

Learning a little when I can.

I would call that a die break. The die had a crack then spread as the die eroded deeper and deeper leaving more unshaped planchet. Eventually this die probably would have broke to the rim and possible off the die. Probably one of the strongest I've seen. But as for value? They are common, but not to the extent of your coin. Thanks for the view.

Thats a cool die chip because it looks like a mouse perched on the side of the Lincoln Memorial.

Does anyone else see that besides me?

LOL...Jim, I see what you are saying. It looks like he is climbing the outside about ready to crown to the top.

I think this proves that coin collectors as a group need therapy, and yea I see it, too.
