here is a die clash on a 5 cent of Newfoundland.
The detail of the die clash (king's face) on the reverse is very sharp. No trace of the die clash on the observe NFLD-1943-5-Cent-Error

Its coins like these that I worry about getting in to the hands of somebody that would mishandle it, take it to the bank, give it to a kid that would loose it, loose it them self, melt it as if it were junk silver, or clean it. I hope you have that coin in a proper holder and I hope that you know where it is at all times. Where did you find this coin?

The obv. Was probably wrecked or clashed too and they only noticed the defects on the one die And changed that die instead of both.

Thank for all the comment . I place this little beauty in a hard slab whit cotton glove. I have any idea of the +value of this error.

Here is the observe (the only die clash in the observe is the 5 the crown) the coin is around EF/AU and have no hairline.

This bit of clash that appears on the obverse may actually represent the "offending" die. Clashes do not always occur equally on each side due to several factors, the most perhaps being the geometry of design (as I was told by the US Mint). Also dies can clash several times without imparting any marks on the opposing die. In the end, one die may show clash marks and the other not. Hard to say what happened here as it is really strong on the reverse. Seems like more should show on the obverse. Could have swapped out the obverse for a new one but I wonder how they missed the clash on the reverse -- the easier die to inspect.

The only thing I can think of Ken, is that the anvil die (obverse with Canadian & NFLD coins) was easier to visually inspect, without actually removing them...

Or that when inspecting the coin in hand the side with the monarchy was top priority for good quality? I don't know, I'm just spit balling.
