I can only bet some of these have been posted. But I just picked this one up and I am really liking it. I think it is a good addition to my world silver coin collection.

I want to eventually pick one of these up. I seem to can't stop buying coins with any sort of animal on them.

This is another awesome coin from Perth! I picked up an MS70 to go with my MS70 Saltwater Crocodile.
I wonder what Perth Wildlife Series will mint in 2016?

Adult funnel web spiders do not weigh one ounce; they weigh about 5 grammes ! (tongue in cheek) Atrax Robustus, which an underground dwelling spider, has a very restricted area of habitation in the sandstone plateau ares of the Sydney Basin only. Atrax Robustus is the most dangeous of about six sub species of them, which are more widely found in Eastern Coastal areas of Australia. The males are more toxic, and come out of their burrows looking for mates during late summer. I lived in an area where Atrax Robustus was common. They are dangerous and very agressive critters. I found one in my bedding when I was about 10 years old. I always used to check my shoes before wearing them. I was bitten by one on the knuckle of my right hand, and the blighter left two tiny tattoo marks, which I still have. Fortunately, the site of the bite was bony, and the spider was not able to inject venom. The vemon is neuro toxic. My kid brother said that I was in no risk of dying because I had no brains anyway !

I also purchased one of these. Does anyone know if the coin before this spider (salt-water crocodile) was the first in a new series and this is the second....or are they just related bullion coins? I really like them both edited to TRY to remove the accidental link to the Perth Deadly and Dangerous Crocodile. I don't know how to take it out

I fixed it for you - simply adding a hyphen kills the auto detecting.

I'm guessing it's a new trend: a different animal every year, struck in large quantity and sold via the bullion outlets for minimal premium above BV. As opposed to the original Deadly & Dangerous series, which was colourized, aimed at collectors, sold for 5x the bullion rate and not even technically an "Australian" coin.

Thanks for fixing my post Sap....and yes I have 4 of those colorful 5x Perth coins too.....Don't have that crocodile but I do have the latest 4: Scorpion, Yellow Bellied Snake, Funnel Spider and the Jelly Fish. The earlier ones were only available on the secondary market and priced out of my range, (especially that first red back spider) when I ran across the series. And yes...my name is Debra and I am an addict. I just love the "animal" coins of all types. Great thread GR58~!! And thanks welder. I see by actually reading the entire thread that you answered my question before I even asked it. How kind of you The Perth Wildlife Series. Now I know what to label this box I have them in. I am going to try 1 more picture...practice since the one above was my first attempt. Stand by......

Debrajc ... nice group of coins.
Interesting posts ... I did not know about the colored versions of the earlier series.
I do have this one and the saltwater croc. And hope Perth puts out more like these.

i too just received my funnel web spider coin and must say I was disappointed it was so shinny. I really liked how the crocodile coin had more of a matte finish to it. dont get me wrong I love the shinny stuff but when the two are side by side they dont look like a they belong together in a series.
