Here is one from a CCN article that I wrote in 2010. Probably nothing new but interesting.

An excerpt from the article:

"Olter also submitted a Canadian 1899 cent that shows a Repunched Date as a 99/99. It's not a monster but it is respectable and is now listed in my files as VCR#1/RPD#1. Arrows point out die cracks that are diagnostic to this stage of the variety as it runs through the leaf and stem of wreath to the left of the 1 of date.
Repunching is a process of entering individual characters or groups of characters or design elements (such as stars) into the dies with punches by hand via a hand punching operation. Doubling occurs when a Mint worker attempts to strengthen a character or design via repunching but fails to perfectly line up the first impression with later impression(s) received via subsequent taps of his mallet or via punch-bounce.

The 99's are great to collect and a good year for repunching type varieties. There were either alot of liquid lunches by the floor gang or alot of new apprentices because there are some huge offsets, especially the hi/lo's. There are also two different font styles for the 9's, intermixed. I don't remember any CCN article on the 99's, but we discussed them for years on the old CCRS site.

We put 4 different RP-9's from 1899 in the Charlton 65th ed. There are others as well that didn't make that cut.

I think that Dan wrote a really nice little article on the 99's a few years ago, but I forget where (maybe CNJ)? I dug through some old QX5 microshots and found a few of the examples that you can find. You'll have to look for a few 99's and put them side by side and you will really see the difference in the fonts between the regular and 'thin" 9's by looking at the notch at the knob and the shape of the upper inside loop.

That one, I think, is in the 2011 Charlton.

If I remeber correctly, I think that there are 7-8 different repunches in the date, some spacings, and some fonts. It's a neat year to collect.
