I found nothing on the ground at school today. I know that it's not normal to find money on the ground everyday, but I somehow pulled it off for the last 6 months. But today, I got nothing, and it's a little frustrating... I would imagine getting skunked CRHing after several successful boxes feels this same way? Let me know what you think, since I've never CRHed before. And please don't criticize me on my money finding skills, such as comments like "you won't find money all the time, get over it" because I am over it, and aware that tomorrow's a new day and chance. I made this post to ask what you think, not to vent any anger.

All I can say is it does feel awesome finding money on the ground. Yesterday I found a dime and it is those little things that make your day feel good. Good job finding it for so long. Keep on walking with your head down! :D

My metal detecting buddy just recently became involved in roll hunting. I recently quit after seven years straight. He complained that he's gone through over $2k in dimes and hasn't found a silver. Today, he pulls his first silver, an 1883 Seated dime from a machine wrapped roll. Beginner's luck? He's also recently dug a 1916d key date merc, so ...
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Disappointment is very often the unwanted result set off by establishing unrealistic expectations. This may not mean much to you at this point but the older crowd here can probably relate best. What I've noticed over time is that folks set goals that are outside of 'process limits' or what can most aptly be expected. When the results are short folks are disappointed (e.g. Not making it to work/school on time). Usually it's blamed on common cause items (slow traffic, late bus, weather). If you were to use a statistical plot you'd probably find that the person's arrival time is within statistical limits. Not late by process standards and capability but late against a deadline. Plotting your finds and calculating upper and lower control limits would probably indicate that the lower limit is zero. In that case you should expect that on days you will find zilch. It might not please you but it might not mean you would be disappointed. Or as much given the logic. I learned this lesson early on in my professional career. It seems that with time folks start to figure it out intuitively (without the math and science). The faster a person gets through that learning curve I think that they will be happier people. Give it some thought and I hope that on your next hunt, you'll find some abandoned money. Ps. Regarding a busted box I had two the last bank trip. Picked up two boxes of 2014s. Given I get to the bank once every 3 weeks it was disappointing. But I accept that it will happen from time to time given my understanding of system process and statistics. So I'm less disappointed. But if it happens again tomorrow....look out!

Don't worry about your 'loss' of success. It's all part of the normal human psychology.
Right now, NOT finding any lost change irritates you. If after another four months you still don't find anything, your brain will switch (a little each day) to believing that NOT FINDING anything is 'normal'. One day you will actually find a coin on the ground and it will fill you with joy! Of course, the next day your brain will once again believe that you will find another coin that day too.
Psychology and coin collectors...............what a combination!

Last year I put together all the money I've ever found on the ground, and put it in a bag. Let's just say at the end of 2014, I had enough to buy an oz of silver, in which I did. Broke even on $20.00 (okay, maybe $19.96 but still)
I'm up to $11 something so far this year. Looks like it's going to be a really good year. And the summer hasn't even started, which means I haven't even gone up to the mall (next to my housing development) and rode around in their parking lots looking for money. I've found a LOT of change.

I see most of you have posted your finds from dropped money. On average, I find about 50 cents each day, though once a week, I seem to find over a dollar, and once every 2 weeks, I might find 2 dollars or more. My record for most change this year was $2.58 in coins in January, but my all time record was a 20 dollar bill I found on 3/10. I also found $2.15 in change that day, so that day was a win in every way possible.

Say.......you're not the kind of guy that picks on smaller students by picking them up by their ankles and shakes them until everything in their pockets falls out; are you? Just curious.

No, I don't do that. But I do leave the cafeteria more slowly so I can look for money on the ground, all it takes to meet my quote is 2 quarters, which isn't that hard to find.
