I check anything 1995 and later, 98, 99 and 2000 are the known dates but you can always find something new by checking other dates.

Thanks,
Bill

alkoz - please forgive me for sounding stupid because I'm really new to this, but I'm confused about your 1993 Close AM suggestion. My understanding was that all of the cents were struck as Close AM in 1993 and the date to look for was only 1992, since 1992 was intended to have only a Wide AM. Is there something significant about the 1993 cents?

13 out of 700? That's a lot. I picked through about 3500 modern pennies last week (my loose change jar) and found NONE.

Levi,

Look at the designer's initials...get a good 2003 or up coin and a good 1991 and below coin and compare it to the ones where you think are Wide AM's. On a Wide AM coin, the initials are noticeably closer to the Memorial steps and on the Close AM coins the initials are noticeably farther away from the steps.

Here's a link to a site I found about these , hopefully this will help out some.

http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/...arieties.htm

hope that's allowed....

Is this really all there is to it? There really does seem to be an obvious difference , but when I was looking through mine the letters didn't seem to be almost touching like these are....hmmm
