It looks like a normal 73 to me. The dual lighting makes it look thicker. Light from one source is best to see any doubling that may be there.

Yes--it's pretty tough to capture decent shots of reflective copper, and this just might be a case of noticing things since I got this digital scope. I probably should just look at more Lincolns before reporting something!

It's a normal 1973 cent. The places where you are showing 'doubling' is on all of them.

Try moving your lighting so that it's angle is almost as if coming out of the optics and shining directly down on the coin and reflecting directly back into the optics off the coin. I know fundamentally this is impossible, but it can be modestly achieved. A slight adjustment here and there, and a watch on intensity of the light with this basic angle in mind will net much better results than what you posted here.

The main goal is to get the light off the sides of the devices and onto the field. Photographing doubling is achieved through creating shadows on all near vertical walls of the devices - which is basically done by shining the light straight down onto the coin.

Thanks for the input! Unfortunately, the lighting on this digital scope is fixed. However, when viewed under my better Zeiss binoc, I don't see the same doubling.
