This may be a thread that's already been asked in the past, but I figure why not, I'll ask. If it has, just remove this post.

ANYWAYS, I only keep 2009 cents if they are UNC. A lot of times they have fingerprints on them, and are often XF-AU and sometimes even have a bit of corrosion too. It's not too often I find them UNC nowadays.

I keep them all. In a whole box of pennies I am lucky to get 10 of them. Even if I were to compile 2500 of them (very unlikely) it would take up the space of 1 box which isn't bad. I toss anything with Verdigris back into circulation though. As far as dimes and nickels go I always keep those as well but it is much less likely to find them in circulation.

I keep them as well, at least for now. They seem uncommon enough to always get my attention.

I go through one box of cents per week and find only a few 2009. I only keep them if they are high grade and the ones with above average eye appeal.

A certain level of eye appeal is needed. A nicely toned coin gets saved but an ugly finger print gets tossed back.

Out of the last two boxes (5000 cents) of pennies I searched, I found 20 total of the 2009 Lincolns; 7 in one box and 13 in the other. The majority of them were not worth keeping but five of them were in top shape (AU) and kept. I used one of them to replace one in my album that was very nice (it was nicely toned in blue-purple) but didn't look right with the others. I still will keep the toned cent in a 2x2 in my 'miscellaneous' box.

I keep all of the better looking 2009 cents just because they appear to be 'rare'. Not sure if it's because they are being horded by others, had super-low mintage, or just that there are millions sitting next to the millions of 2009 nickels in some vaults, waiting to be set free one day.
Rest in Peace

I don't bother with circulated 2009's. because I have put away about 125 OBW rolls representing the 2 mints and all 4
reverses. I even have many directly from the P and D mints in their wrappers. I'm thinking long time demand for this series. a one year change of design for any coin will always attract collectors.

No because I wound up with half a box each of P&D LP1-LP4 from going to banks and getting getting boxes then trading P's for D's through this forum. I don't want any from circulation, 10,000+ mint sets, proof sets, and graded ones are enough for me.

I never hardly ever see them in change. I keep the nice ones, but like others, I already have a bunch.

Whenever I find a 2009 cent I just toss them in a jar full of 2009 pennies

People probably save 2009 cents for the same reason people saved 1909 cents. There is no major difference between either year: both changed the way the cent looked the previous year, and both were still worth a penny years later.

@stonecoldearl

2009 coins have the lowest mintages since the 1950's and the 2009 penny has 4 different designs

Back when they came out, I hoarded over 400 of them I found in CWR. Never did find a LP4 until later on in 2010.

I've still only found one of the 2009-P LP4. It was in terrible shape too so I didn't keep it. That's after searching 15-20 boxes too!
